drive train noise

My '05 Ranger 4X4 has developed a "humming" noise from the front right ....sounds like "aggressive tread" tire noise almost (isn't).....gets increasingly loud from about 50 km/h and is quite loud at highway speed. A fairly sharp left turn makes it go away. Going into neutral or 4 wheel drive...
