How the heck do you change the throwout bearing on a M50 slave cylinder?
I have the slave out and not sure on how to pull the bearing off.

P.s. I would change the whole slave anyway.... They are prone to failing.

I have a fairly new slave with a broken bearing. Was wanting to just replace bearing if it could be done.

There is a snap ring holding the bearing on the slave, but I would do as pillen140 suggested and replace both. I had to drop the trans a second time trying to save a couple bucks and wish I had put in all new.:bawling::bawling:

If I recall correctly on the "Aluminum" 1988-92 slave it's a matter of squeezing the plastic retainer at two points to release plastic "Barbs" that hold the bearing retainer to the slave body.

On the 1993-up slave cylinder you depress the throwout bearing and remove the spiro-lok that holds the bearing on the "pilot"

I don't recall if there was a retaining ring on the '88-92 type or not...

as a note, the '88-92 T/O bearing is usually mounted on a BLACK plastic retainer.

The 1993-up is blue plastic, the two types are NOT interchangeable.

Cool thanks allanD I will just change both. I really dont' want to have to pull the tranny down the road. I can spend the extra money but would rather put that towards a new clutch or something needed more....

We changed just the bearing, now wish we'd changed the whole shebang...

well I have just bought a new slave. My luck it will go out as soon as I get the transmission put in.

I have a new after market T/O brng. blk housing has (4) external barbs holding brng which must be released to install on slave, then brng can be put on and snapped back on barbs.
