Ford has said several times that it sees the Ranger as a "lifestyle vehicle". It believes that if it kills the Ranger, those buyers will either upgrade to an F-150 or downgrade to a Focus (or presumably to the Focus' platform cousins, such as the upcoming Focus-based Escape.)
