  1. brake line threads

i am going to nix my RABS unit to get my rear brakes working again. i dont have $130 to drop on this thing at the moment, so i'm just going to replace it with a short piece of brake line. anyone know what the threads on the RABS unit are?
  2. hitch interchange

i bought a used hitch from someone on RPS... he took it off his 03 fx4 i believe. i'm trying to put it on my 89 single cab long bed. the hitch is a little too narrow to bolt up... were there width changes between years or did UPS manage to bend this thing? the box was mangled but i figured...
  3. charging / gauge problem?

i took my 89 out tonight, made it a couple hundred yards down the road and noticed my battery light was on below 1500rpm. then i saw my battery gauge... sitting steady at 9v. great, a dead alt i figure... so i drive it straight home. lights dont seem dim at all... nothing odd is going on...
  4. Headlights / driving lights

Like most I'm sure, the headlights on my 89 are REALLY yellowed. I cant see shit! I'm curious if its worth the $60-70 or so to buy a brand new pair of headlights on ebay... or if I should just get some $20 aftermarket driving lights to tie in with my high beams. I'm adding some yellow fog...
  5. Welding on a swaybar

Alright... I know that welding spring steel is generally accepted as a bad idea, but hear me out. I'm sure we have several welders/fabricators on the forum and I'd like to hear your opinion. I have a swaybar with a cracked eye at the end. I was thinking if I cut some small pieces of plate...
  6. 86 mustang gt seats

so i grabbed some halo headrest mustang seats from craigslist to throw in my 89 single cab. tossed the drivers seat in today... then noticed that it doesnt latch in the upright position. neither does the passenger side (wtf?). anyone know if these seatback mechanisms tend to fail or something?
  7. 2.3t clutch

So how stout is the stock ranger 2.3 clutch? I bought this truck from a friend of a friend, with a nice stack of receipts. Among them is a brand new clutch and slave cyl. My friend says he helped install the clutch this summer... it has maybe 5k on it. Will it survive behind a stock 2.3t for...
  8. 89 2wd 2.3 - which trans for boost?

Alright... in the spring I'm putting in a 2.3t from a thunderbird. My truck currently has 269k miles (or is it 169k? I don’t really know... the carfax was inconclusive, the same person owned it for too long). Not sure I trust the original tranny, although it does shift quite well and doesn’t...
  9. Really dumb question

89 2wd single cab ranger. Where the heck is my jack? LOL I decided to look for it today, no real reason... cant seem to find it. Don’t have an owners manual so right now I'm SOL if I get a flat. I might still be if it turns out its missing....
  10. Tire width

Not worried about trying to fit 33's or 35's... wondering more if anyone knows how wide I can go with street tires on a stock or slightly lowered (2" drop) '89. I'll be keeping the tire diameter close to stock size, but I want some wider rubber especially in the back. These will be on 16"...
  11. 86 TC computer

I found a good deal on an ECU from an 86 TC. I know its not the BEST computer to use, but will it work alright with an 88 TC engine? Is the pinout going to be the same? I cant find an 86 diagram anywhere, just the 88. All I found was that the 86 used the 35# injectors (on the motor already)...
  12. Emissions

Alright the time has come to get my 89 tested. Here in ct if you have studded snows on they give you a two speed idle test (idle and like 2500rpm free-revving), but with normal tires they run it on the rollers at two speeds (15 and 25mph?). which do you think would be easiest to pass? I have...
  13. converting to manual steering

can it be done? what do i need to do? i hate the feel of power steering, i always remove it on all of my vehicles. just wondering if i need a different steering box or if i can just unhook the lines, loop them together, and remove the pump. thanks
  14. dating my engine

is there a serial number or vin anywhere on the engine that i can use to date it? its a 2.3 btw. i'm trying to figure out if my truck has the original engine or not, since the body has 269k on it. the engine seems to run far too well to actually have that many miles... i'm really curious...
  15. Bad wheel bearing? rear end?

Hey guys. I'm new to the forum, and actually completely new to trucks and RWD vehicles, but I am pretty mechanically inclined. Heck, I took an escort and built it (myself) to run low 12's. I'm just having issues trying to diagnose this... I don’t want to tear the whole truck apart (in 30...
  16. towing with a BII

anyone tow with one of these? what kind of capacity do they have? i'm looking at one with the 2.9, 4wd, automatic trans.
  17. 89 2.3 coolant gauge sender

where is the sending unit for the coolant temp gauge? mine is pegged to cold all the time, but the truck warms up and runs normally. new thermostat, heater core, and radiator.
  18. swaybars

I found a little here and there about swapping swaybars from broncos/explorers onto the ranger to improve handling. Something about an explorer front bar with a B2 rear bar. Will this work on my 89 2wd? What model/year range do I need to look for at the junkyard?
  19. no heat

to me this seems like a bad core, but i'll let you guys be the judge. i was hoping for just a problem with the blend door.... but after driving the truck home, only one of the heater core hoses is warm (the drivers side hose, if it matters). i also heard about some sort of vacuum actuated...
  20. front drop springs '89 ranger

I am considering putting a pair of drop springs on the front of my ranger. Here's my reasoning... I plan to grab an explorer rear end AND leaf springs, and use them as is. From what I read, the explorer leafs will raise the truck a bit if you mount them axle under. If I mount them axle over...
