Craftsman exchange policy.

I went in the other day and exchanged a 3/8 and a 1/4 drive rachet and a 3/8 extension, they grabbed new ones. They all break eventually. I.ve had alot of probs w the 1/4 rachets.

All the craftsman stuff i take back i have gotten new off the shelf.. but with Snap-on its a different story, they try to fix it for you and if they cant your out of a ratchet for a week or so cause the guy driving the truck takes it with him to see if the factory can fix it, then if they cant they give you a new one... My wifes dad works for Snap-on and i get tools for christmas and birthdays from his "Gift" collection.. Meaning he gets tools from them every year and just tosses em to the side so then he gives them to me now when i break one its hard to get it replaced so i just use my craftsman, if i could i would trade my Snap-on stuff for craftsman just for the easy exchange policy...

I never had a problem with Sears tool bring backs. I returned two ratchets over the past 20 years. They just handed me a new one both times I walked in to the tool center...no questions asked!!! That looks like a made in China hammer...where is the Craftsman logo??
That's not my hammer, just one I found off google in the same style. My hammer is 15 years older than that one.

If you've replaced the handle 3 or 4 times, why are you wantin to exchange it now?
They used to have CRAFTSMAN stamped in the head.
I couldn't tell ya the last time I went to SEARS for tools, as most places now are LIFETIME WARRANTY (Lowes - Kobalt, Home Depot - Husky, Wal-Mart - Stanley, just to mention a few), and the last time I took a socket that cracked to them & a ratchet that was stuck, they told me they couldn't take it off the shelf, they would have to mail it to me. I told them that didn't do me any good today, they said sorry, but that all we can do.:icon_confused:
My father replaced the handle because we've always had plenty of them sitting around. Plus, he probably didn't feel like driving a truck that gets 10mpg a total of 80 miles to get a replacement. You should try going to another store and taking the socket back, or going in when someone else is working. If you have a Kmart near you that's an option as well if it's Craftsman. Although you will probably have to take in a full set of sockets that matches a set they sell.

i take a box of broken craftsman tools in every few months never have any trouble

i bet ive got 5 ratchets and 10 sockets in the box right now

I love sears.

We took the hammer there (covered in quarry dirt and mud) and the guy took one look at it, then walked over and grabbed a new one.

Here it is!

I should have taken a picture of the old one.

We also got a brand new 1/2" socket wrench for a old broken one we found on the side of the road years ago. Next time we take a trip to binghamton (either for another cancer doc appointment, or for a junk yard trip) we're going to dig around in the garage and find all the craftsman tools and see what needs replacing.

I too love the exchange policy on Craftsman tools.

I had a 3/8" ratchet that came as part a sat. One day while I was using it (just to tighten some lag bolts on a platform leg), it seemed as if it was jump out of drive.

The next day, I was doing some errnends and popped into my local Sears with the ratchet in hand. Before I even had a chance to explain the issue, the associate was handing me a new ratchet off the shelf. No muss, no fuss, and no heartburn.

I took a half inch ratchet in and they wouldn't give me the kit. Said I had to leave it for them to fix, which I did. Went back and they had lost it. It was a model they no longer sell so I got nothing. Corproate wouldn't even do anything for me.
Last week I was in the store, just real desperate for a socket, which they did not have, and a guy was there with a bad ratchet. They pulled a used one, which I assume they had "fixed", out from under the counter and gave that to him. It was in much worse condition, visually, that the one he brought in.

Ive never had problems bringing stuff to sears. and same with Canadian Tire and Mastercraft tools, i always bring them back with no problems

yep I bring in stuff on a regular basis...no package, no receipt, nothing. Can Tire will take just about anything back. Funny story, I had a 7/16 drill bit I had broke into 3 pieces, bring it in and go to exchange it. I go grab a new one, and read the back of the package "1 year limited warranty, does not cover against breakage or misuse". Regardless, the drill bit was much older than 1 year, and broke into 3 pieces...yet they still exchanged it for a new one.

cliff notes: ignore whatever the warranty reads on ANYTHING with the Mastercraft name on it...chances are they WILL exchange it.

I was working on my truck on day in the hobby shop on base and the 3/8" ratchet I was using had it's direction selector snap off.

It wouldn't snap on, because it's a craftsman.

The manager got ticked at me, then asked me whether I wanted to pay the cost of the tool or buy my own replacement and keep the broken one. I took it and told him I'd do the second one. So, the next day I walked into the Sears store, showed them the ratchet, and walked out with a new ratchet.

I felt great, no money lost on my part. Lifetime warranty FTW!

(Btw, anybody heard of "Allen" tools?)

my dad is a garbage man and one day he found a good size ratchet in the garbage...i think it was 1/2". Anyways it didnt work and he took it in and no questions got a brand new one....that is a good way to stand behind your tools...

I love sears... I keep blowing up gearwrenches and bringing them in.

I don't even say anything anymore, I just hand them the broken wrench, they play with it a second, go grab one off the shelf, toss it to me, and I walk out the door.

Never had an exchange take me more than two minutes.

Although half my junk I don't take in anymore because once it breaks it becomes a new tool (either a punch or a prybar of sorts)

I work for Sears and I am the tool guy at my store, I would take that back and exchange it with out any issues.

Only time I get pissed off with people is when guys bring in luggage bags full of sockets and want them all exchanged and it 10 mins before closing. You would be surprised how often that happens too.
