driving to the north pole

I would much rather buy something that says "made in USA" then made in China. What's wrong with that? Why would you get so angry about someone believing that buying American made products helps our economy? Chill out man.:icon_twisted:

I don't give a flip where it's made, I like to buy things that work :icon_thumby:

Supporting your country has nothing to do with consumerism, and Buy American is a load of horsecrap. It's just a made-up word invented by politicians so they can appear to be fighting the 'economic downturn'. It doesn't even really do anything. Its not like any new trade laws were implemented, or new tarrifs imposed to discourage importing.

If every country actually implemented and enforced a buy 'our country' act, the world economy would go down the shitter. Fortunes are made off of trade.

So go ahead and wave the damn flag, you makeshift patriot. The flag shop is out of stock, why don't you hang yourself at half mast?

In any case, most 'imports' are made in North America anyway. And I'm not talking about merely assembled, I'm takling about the body panels actually being stamped and the engine blocks being cast.

Anyway, Top Gear is my all-time favorite show. I have every season on my computer. Did you know Jezza and May got into a bit of hot water for their stunt with the gin?

Well that may be true the ranger is assembled 10 minutes from my house, and maybe I wanna support my local economy and my neighbors jobs.

And also how can you say it wont prevent the economic turn down when the Ranger plant is so close to the chopping block? If people keep the demand then the jobs remain. Buying American supports a dying breed and if the demand is gone, the jobs are gone. Pretty sure the Japanese companies are doing alot better than the American companies, so buy American!

Basically don't tell me buying American is BS when I drive past the plant that my truck came from twice a week (granted its assembled). clearly you have some pent up rage against the US.

(oh yeah and way to quote an idiotic "song")

For the most part everything I have purchased that has stood the test of me and time, has been American made. That's one of many reasons I'd rather buy something that has that MADE IN THE USA sticker on it. It also helps keep my fellow Americans employed. I take pride in that.

But to each his own. I won't throw out judgments backed by anger, because someone want's to help support American or Japanese made products. If my neighbor prefers products from over seas, then that's up to him. Who am I to judge him or her..right? That's why I don't and neither should Great_Big_Abyss. That's just impolite and inconsiderate.

Wow, quite the can of worms I opened up.

First of all, I would like to make it clear that I mean't no disrespect to anyone.

And its not that I have pent-up anger at the US. Not at all. I like and admire your country. What I'm angry about is this 'either us or them' mentality that the Buy American clause seems to have stimulated. It's not good for the global economy, and down the road, what's not good for the global economy is not good for your country or mine.

What I'm angry about are politicians who turned what was supposed to be a small clause governing the direction of the bailout funds into some sort of lifestyle statement...that you're not a good american unless you buy american. That's not at all what it was about. And yes, I simplified it a little.

And, btw, what's good for your economy is generally good for Canada's, since our two economies are so closely related.

Actually, it doesn't end at our two economies. Look at what happened to the globe. EVERY industrialized nation on the planet suffered from slower than normal growth. Most suffered from a contraction in their economies. And it started in the US. Now, please understand, I'm not laying blame...The only point I'm trying to make is that a situation that originally affected only the United States ended up putting its mark on the entire planet. Therefore, the corollary must be that what affects the planet can also affect the United States. Which, if you think about it, essentially boycotting the rest of the world because you want to help your own economy is just foolishness.

To whomever started this thread i didnt mean to start a shit storm, i guess most countrys cannot have pride in buying from their own, because they buy from everyone else! Long live AMERICA and american made products! Ranger>toy anyday.

I agree with much of what you said in that last statement great_big_abyss. I just know that Japan, China, Taiwan and so on, already have the whole electronics industry in their pockets. They are making plenty of money off our broke asses. Ha ha. People that can't afford Ipods, are buying Ipods, people that can't afford Toyota's, are buying Toyota's. Hell...they have the whole globe in their pockets when it comes to electronics. Here in the US we farm out most of our sub assemblies, injection moldings and mass production of almost everything over seas. That has effected the American labor industries in a huge way. All those people with out jobs because corporate decided to farm them out, now cant spend money on products domestic or from over seas.

This is a huge subject! I'm sure we could go on and on for days about this. Like I said though, I agree with you on certain aspects, and respect your opinion.

I love this show! Jeremy Clarkson is one of the funniest tv hosts ever! Like everyone else said, the Toyota did really good in the challenge. This isn't the first time a Toyota has been used on one of the Top Gear Challenges. There is another episode where they try to destroy a Toyota truck by doing all sorts of stuff to it like lighting it on fire, putting it in the ocean, etc. When ever they have a challenge when a truck is needed, Jeremy always picks a Toyota Hilux. Great show!

I'm not saying one brand is bad, or one is better than the other... I'm saying I don't look at the badge on the front when deciding what I want... If Toyota brought their 70-series cruiser to the US, I'm sorry, but I highly doubt I'd ever buy another truck... Nobody except for Toyota or Land Rover or Nissan makes a new truck I would actually buy, and none of them are available in the states... Closest thing would be a new Ford Super Duty (with manual everything), but it's too big...

Me too! I rather have something made by free people, free to work for that company, and free to leave, rather than, forced slave child labor.:dunno:

WOW... this tread got jacked. I just thought it was a cool off road achievement. I would like to see someone try it again with a more impressive rig. Their trucks where sweet, but I think they could have been better. If they had a more impressive rig, they might have gotten through the ice field better.
