Does anyone know how to disable garage door sensors?

i dont know man, my kids are 5 and 7 and they know better then to stand or lay under a garage door lol, besides the fact how would they get stuck? hold the remote while standing under the door? or push the button on the wall and run under the door? a kid that would do that needs some serious parenting or a good scare from a garage door

Good for you. But accidents happen. I have them, they never bother me unless a broom or something is set in front of them. It's not like garage doors were cutting kids in half, but when they came down on kids if it hit them right it pushed on their chest enough that they would suffocate.

You are very lucky to have such great kids. But inteligence and good upbringing does not make kids invincible. They are kids afterall, no mater how good of a parent we are to them. Now didn't you pull a bunch of crazy stuff when your parents weren't around? I feel we need to protect most people from themselves. Darwin did not get famous for nothing.

Natural selection is a big part of how our species has advanced to the point it is now. Why should we turn that off and start evolving backward? Coddling people from cradle to grave is what is turning us into a welfare state. Ever seen the movie "Idiocracy"? I know it's a stupid hollywood movie but I fear it's more accurate than we might think.

I don't believe adults should be protected from themselves. Children should be protected from themselves by their parents; not garage door opener manufacturers. Parents should know where their kids are well enough to not push the garage door button while the kid is standing in the doorway. Kids should be taught not to close the door on their friends or siblings. If they're too young to understand that, they don't need to be in the garage unsupervised.

I grew up in a house full of guns. I knew exactly how dangerous they were and it never even occured to me to go get one out of my dads closet and play with it. With responsible parents, it CAN be done.

I wear my seatbelt, but it irritates me that car manufacturers are using alarm beeps to annoy you in to wearing it. If I want to risk my life and a traffic ticket, I should be able to do that without being driven to insanity.

B) I don't have kids so they can't be trapped in the garage door. Dogs shouldn't be in the garage to begin with because there are many things in the garage that could more easily kill or harm them than the garage door.

When I was a kif I played with the garage door a lot. I never saw the danger until I was older. it was bigger and heavier than th eone I have now and it would go right back up and soon as I grabbed in on its downward motion. I have no trouble beleiving my son will be just fin with the removal of these sensors.

I'll stay out of the parenting and safety debates but I'm curious as to just what's happening with the sensors that annoys you so much?

I have no kids living at home but love my sensor - not for the safety feature but as a "car's in far enough" sensor. I pull in, watching for the green light on the front of the unit and when it lights up I know I'm in far enough to clear the door but just barely. That leaves the max available room for crossing in front of the car to my toolbox or scoots etc. without having to hang a tennis ball from the ceiling to knock my head on or a block on the floor I'd trip over!

My biggest issue is they do not function as they should. There will be nothing in the way and the door will not go down. I am sick of having to manualy close it just becuase the sensors chose that moment to keep the door open. I can open and close it several times back to back then all of a sudden it will not close when nothing has changed. If I do dnot have a garage door opener, then I would not mind doing it manualy.

my problem with them is that I don't carry an opener with me when I'm on my motorcycle, so I start the door closing and run out. It's a lot easier to do that when I'm not worrying about breaking the beam and starting the door back up again. You might say it's MORE dangerous with the beam since I can get out from under the door quicker.

i think they are designed to be damper proof just remount the censors on the ceiling by the opener and leave it there!

That's exactly why both of our garage door "dumb dumb" beams are mounted to the ceiling, right next to the motor. No kids in the house and the only time my dog is anywhere near the door is when it is opening anyways. Which to be honest she darn near tears the door off the rollers trying to get under it!

That is what I did. I guess it is best to leave it be becuase we plan to rent this house out with in a couple of years. Thsi way I can re-install them.

I have a keychain style remote I used to use when I rode the scoot. Put the ring onto a carabiner and hooked it to my belt loop or stashed it in my windshield bag. Last year for Xmas my S/O got me the H-D remote. Wires into the system so that toggling the hi/low beam switch activates the opener. LOVE IT!!!

Very good thinking. If you rented the house out after disabling that safety feature and, god forbid, anything happened to your renters you'd be liable. Still, I'd worry why they're acting up? Only trouble I ever have with mine is when the tall plants right outside the garage door get a branch caught under the door and trip the beam. Hit the switch, go into the house, go back out later to toss something in the trash or get a tool whatever and go "Crap, I coulda sworn I shut that door!"

yes they are really annoying.. we have one (crapsman also) on the shop door (10'x10' insulated).. if the sensors are on the floor and there's nothing in the way of them but the sensors are dirty the door will not close.. you mash the button on the wall and it starts to go down, then stops and goes back up like wtf... hit the button again, same thing. then i get mad and push and hold the button on the wall and it will go down and stay down..

The only problem with the key chain openers is if you get caught in the rain it will not work. Trust me, I know.
