302 swap in progress

Put back just about everything you removed. Except for the motor and transmission. You didn't need to complicate things by swapping a 9" rear in for the motor you're going with. Nor removing the gas tank.

what should i do as far as wiring goes? and the rear end was making some growling noises at low speeds so i figured a free nine incher out of a donor ranger given to me sounded like a pretty good idea. and the gas tank is actually gonna be relocated into the bed once i figure out how im gonna do it. DAMN. i just need some people that are familiar with this kinda swap to come out here and help.

:icon_rofl: Most guys ask these questons BEFORE THEY START THE SWAP :buttkick::idiot: Kinda like diving into an empty swimming pool here.:icon_confused: :icon_surprised::eek::tease:

this isn't Pirate. we don't scream at noobs to use the search feature like we have something better to do. 9 times out of 10 all search does is give a list of threads telling you to use the search feature.

[edit] must have missed the part where he started removing things already with out researching it, my bad [/edit]

its all good.... and thanks.i used the search and i couldnt really find more of what i was looking into. im not the greatest at wiring problems and figured a full harness swap would probably be easier.

and by the way.. to those of you that have been helping me out and answering all of the stupid questions i may have... thank you. i really do appreciate the support some of you have been showing.

another stupid question?? if i were to put the 2.3 harness back in it what kind of wiring changes should be made then

What engine are you using? I used my 5.0 engine harness on the engine. The 5.0 harness connects to the 5.0 computer and also splices in with the 2.3 harness that goes into the firewall.

A lot of the 2.3L stuff goes by by. I wouldn't even consider it when the right main harness is available for the engine. Even better is if you can match the engine/wiring/trans combo. You'll need vehicle specific wiring diagrams for the Ranger and the donor. A lot of information pertaining to wiring - you will find in those manuals. :)

+1 on the gas tank, it really doesn't need to be relocated, just need to route the exhaust to the passenger side. My 7.5" has been holding up for the time being, but I think an 8.8" would be sufficient for anything I could throw at it as just a backyard/garage wrencher. Pull the diff cover and see what is going on though for sure.

ill be running true duals for exhaust but i wanted the gas tank in the bed for weight purposes and the battery'll be back there as well. it has a fiberglass bed and its a first gen, so that means i have no traction. it was hell gettin a holeshot with the 2.3 so im gonna need all the help i can get getting my tires to hook up. and as far as the engine i'll be using itll be a 5.0 from a crown vic as the original plan for the gt40p kinda got tossed out the window today. found a crack in the block.

:icon_confused: What the hell's "Pirate"? :icon_confused:And I wasn't screaming. :icon_rofl:I was laughing my ass off. :icon_rofl: And a more "in depth" research will yeild the answers to his questions. :icon_idea:

a buddy of mine will be helpin me an hes done a few v8 swaps into rangers but were really weanting to pull this truck together on a very tight junkyard budget. no money for kits here just a few broke asses buildin a bad ass truck...

I got to thinkin about what you posted here and have a question. Where's your "friend" that talked you into this ?If he's done V8 Ranger swaps before, what's his problem now ? And If he's skipped out on you, be more selective in choosing friends from now on. And don't be so gullible as to be talked into doing something with your transportation that you cannot reverse. If you look back far enough using the search feature here and over on the RPS site, you will find basic instructions I posted many years ago on how to set and position the engine/transmission in place. I think someone else did as well. I don't have the time now to repost that stuff.

I know, didn't you see the Edit?

and Pirate refers to Pirate 4x4. go ask a question there some time with a post count of less than 50.

On Pirate, don't dare ask if you can fit 35's with a 6" lift either.

:D 35's are for pusssy's. :icon_rofl:Nothing less than 44's will do.:icon_thumby:

damn. people. all im saying is, im young, i dont know everything there is to know about rangers and v8 swaps, and i wanted some input on what to do or look out for while doing this swap. plain and simple. so if anyone wants to rag on me for trying to understand what im doing a little better, fine, so be it. i really dont care. as far as my friend goes... yeah hes done a few CARB'D v8 swaps into a ranger. in fact, all he works on is carburated vehicles. my main concern for this swap is the wiring side of it all. getting the engine and tranny in arent gonna be all that hard, but this is the first efi wiring harness swap on my own. i wont have anyones help as far as wiring goes.
