I know the 2nd gen axle is somewhat shorter than the 3rd gen axle, what are the possible problems I could face putting one in? Has anyone else done this/looked into doing this before?

pretty sure you would just have to move the spring perches, i dont think the width of the axle is any different. the pinion flange may be different as well....

Hmm.. I seem to remember something about rears being two inches or so shorter than the newer axles.

To move a spring perch.. that would require welding or something right?

yea cutting and rewelding new spring perches .. would prolly needs different backspaced wheels to ..

Pretty sure all ya gotta do is bolt it up... It's only like 3" shorter... No big deal...

It is indeed just a bolt in job. No need to relocate anything. The rear tires will tuck underneath the truck a bit more is all that will happen. Spring perches are in the same place on all rangers.

No. They are the same for all rangers.

my bad, i must be thinking about b2's. i know i had to move perches on junkyard axle i was putting in my ranger....

Thanks for all the help guys. I was asking because I might be picking up an 8.8 axle off another member on here soon if plans work out.

IF you have a gen3 get a Gen3 axle.

I'm not sure I'd willingly give up 2" of width.

I went the other way, I put a gen3 axle in my gen1.

the extra 2" helps stability.
