Pickup Crash Tests

I want side air-bags tho.

Why?

Just because "everything else has it"? I can see the point in a unibody car, but a vehicle with a frame doesn't need them. When hit in the side, the truck will only deform to where the frame is. That story proves my point, as those models were tested with and without side air bags and there was very little difference in outcome.

Side air bags are just another complexity and maintenance headache. Instead of taking 10 minutes to remove the door panel, now it will take 2 hours carefully following a written procedure to avoid setting off the stupid air bags.

Besides that, the chance of them saving you in an accident is less than the chance that the fireman cutting the truck apart to get you out will hit one of the 6000 psig nitrogen air bag cylinders and kill everyone in a 10 foot radius.

Side airbag's purpose is to reduce trauma to the head, has absolutely nothing to do if there is a frame or not....Matter of fact, the unibody will give, absorbing the inertia from the side impact, where a frame won't.

I'd just assume that the money spent to making side airbags, go to driver education so that we can all avoid alot more accidents. We suck at driver ed here, and we all know it.

The only thingS I wished my 1st gen Ranger had was HEADREST on the seats!

I can't imgaine getting rear ended and my head hitting the back glass. That is the ONLY saftey feature the 1st gens needed.:annoyed:

I put a set of the highback Ranger seats in my standard cab because the bench didn't have headrests...they are cheap and easy to install...
