90 ranger axle 4.0l possible 7.5 inch

I have a 90 ranger with the 4.0 automatic. I checked the code on the door and it says f6, I then checked the tech library here and it said all 90 and up rangers with the 4.0 have the 8.8, but my code is f6 that says its a 7.5. Is it possible I could have the 7.5, is there any other way to tell what axle I have. Nevermind I scrolled down a little farther in the tech section and found a picture. I do have the 7.5 in my ranger. I feel kinda robbed now, I has hoping it had the stronger rear end.

Looked at a parts ranger yesterday, 4.0 with blown A4LD (Surprising huh?), it's axle code was also F6, it was a 90...

I couldn't find a tag on the diff but I did snap a pic of the rear end and the engine. I'll feel like an ass if this isn't the 4.0, I hope it is, and I hope I'm wrong about the rear end. Here ya go:

That's a 4.0 and it looks like an 8.8 to me...

Thanks for the replies, maybe ford just made an error on the door tags in 90, or something else like that. Its good to know that I got what I paid for, I was worried, since I have no experience with a 4x4 ranger. I've always just owned beater 4 banger rangers and thought it would be nice to move up in the world. Thanks again.

Yup, thats a 4.0 and 8.8...its got a composite diff cover, only the 8.8 came with those.

i have seen SOME 7.5s with composite covers... but that sure does look like an 8.8

'90 was the 1st year for the 4.0L/8.8", seems someone at Ford didn't yet have their axle tags all sorted out properly ('91&up will show it as R6 for the same axle)

I think Ford screwed up sometimes because my 88 B II has 4.10 trac lock, but the door tag says it should have 3.73. The rest of the info on the tag is seems to be correct, and it doesn't look like the door was ever changed.

I have anouther question, is there any way for me to find out what gear ratio I have. I was planning on draining out the diffs and putting in fresh fluid anyways, is there any way to tell from in there, I can take pics if needed.

The tag on the axle will tell you. Should be attached to one of the diff cover bolts.

If it's not there, you'll have to count the teeth on the ring and pinion...then divide # of ring teeth by # of pinion teeth. So 41 ring teeth / 10 pinion = 4.10 gears for example

Ok I have anouther question. Last night was my first time taking my new truck on the free way. I know the speedo is off because of the big tires, but it seemed way off. I was doing 55-60 according to the speedo, and my rpms where at 3500-4000. Which to me seemed kinda high, but I was keeping up with people. The freeways are 70 around here. So I figure 55-60 is my 70, but isn't 3500-4000r's kinda high, or is that about right??
