I understand the complexity of newer vehicles and not wanting just anybody to mess with certain systems. That said, I think the market should generally refuse to buy vehicles with that crap on it. I can't afford any new vehicles though so the companies selling them don't care what I think.

If it weren't for the legally required crap (Whatever these new 2027 Model requirements actually are.) I think a company could actually build something without all that (It sounds like Slate might wanna go that direction. I wish them well.) and make a profit.

Does anybody have a link to what the 27 model requirements are? I've heard everything from completely removed emissions (not even cats) to full-time driver and passenger monitoring subscription services that will allow a remote cubicle worker to watch every move made in the vehicle from multiple angles and remote control literally everything. (Think the AI suspects you're not paying attention and flags you for the nearest patrol unit. Then locks the brakes and doors till the officer is outside.) If you think Flock is bad, imagine if the same data was generated by EVERY vehicle on the road, live.

Unrelated note, I watched many videos of the guy in Jim's post at one time. I stopped after they started coming off as "pretentious asshole" after awhile.

They are license plate readers. Lots of controversy. Some cities are now getting rid of them because of public citizen privacy issues.

Ive done some reprogramming on my 2021 Ford Escape Hybrid, ForScan is pretty powerful. I think Jim Farley needs to tossed into a river.

This hybrid escape had so much potential, but they decided to cheap out on battery production, QA and door regulator design. Let's not begin on software issues. I have a Christmas tree dashboard but still get 31mpg with AWD and have never been stuck on the side of the road.

On tractors, this is why everything I own is pre-2005, so before most brands switched to software controls. Frick John Deere (even though I own a 1250, which is technically a Yanmar).

You're forgetting about how they are using AI to write all the programs instead of actually putting forth any effort.

Of course, I'm not going to take away from those that are doing their job but are put on a strict deadline with no wiggle room.

It's because my father, my best friend at work, supervisor, and 3 direct coworkers are all engineers I understand them lol. Idk if there's much of an incentive to be one anymore. Whether it be electrical, mechanical, or computer.
