Everything is figureoutable
I finally got my Torque Monster headers. It took a little over 6 months so it wasn't as bad as some people have experienced.

I read through the paper instructions and there was several references to a video. Does anyone know where I could find it? Bob isn't the easiest guy to get ahold of.

Step one: remove old junk.

Step two: Install shiny new stuff.

Step three: Rev to the moon

👍🏻

I built the engine and did the swap, I'm sure I can figure it out. I just wanted to have the extra documentation if nothing else.

I got a disk with a video with my headers. It’s somewhere around here. Really old video so pretty low quality. Basically it explains how to change the manifolds for headers in the vehicle. IIRC, you have to pop the steering linkage off the rack to get the drivers side on and I think the passenger side requires loosening the motor mount and lifting that side of the motor slightly to get it in place.

I put OBX headers on my Explorer and the drivers side which I expected issues with was cake but the passenger side gave me all sorts of grief... I only have one engine mount nut on that side since one is completely covered...

I actually saw a set of the obx headers on offer up recently for about $650. I was tempted but these finally showed up.
The mount nuts sound like they'll be fun.

Since the OBX seem like an afterthought shortcut knockoff of the TM hopefully it'll be easier... the one engine mount nut is WAY more structural than what I had before :), I had no bolts into the engine on the passenger side as it'd been driven too long with broken off bolts so there was roughly infinite torque on those bolts, broke as soon as I put it in low range reverse...

Awesome!

I don't necessarily think others are wrong about the wait, you just got lucky with your order timing. Sounds like he builds them in batches. Gets X number of orders, buys material and builds them, then sends the batch off for coating. Yours was probably one of the last orders for that batch.

Still need to place an order myself. I've got the OBX installed now. Some time next year I'll be pulling the transmission for rebuild or replacement. Also need to investigate an oil leak, either the new oil pan gasket or rear main seal didn't seal like it was supposed to. Slow enough leak that it will wait until the transmission is coming out anyway. While doing all of that I'd like to drop in a proper set of TM headers.

Yeah, at some point I intend to buy another set or two of TM headers. I have an Explorer (the intended donor for my 5.0 swap before I realized it was a poor choice and in really great condition body/frame wise. I need to clear out a few projects before I get serious about what I’m gonna do with that, but it might be worth keeping.

He originally told me a month or 2 for delivery. When that didn't happen and he wouldn't answer the phone I made it a point to get very persistent. I figure he kinda rushed them out a little so he didn't have to deal with my endless calls and emails lol

@Snatchsquatch
I recommend using a locking header fastener like those made by STAGE8. Every mechanical mentor I've ever had preached "you can retorque them once every month or do it once and done forever"!! I chose the once and done everytime that I've installed a set of headers...never a regret.

What kind of results are y'all seeing out of aftermarket headers? Are you just doing headers, or changing the whole exhaust system? I have an endless list of mods/improvements I still want to do, just wondering if I need to add even more to it...

So, I don’t know that headers make a whole lot of difference on a 4.0 because the stock manifolds aren’t terrible. The 5.0 from the Explorer is another animal. I can’t stick my index finger past the first knuckle in the Explorer 5.0 manifolds. Super restrictive.

Makes sense - after i asked i realized this thread was full of V8 swaps... someday ill join yall
