What did you do to your Ranger today? (Part Deux!)

Finished my bumper for now, added some side supports that tie into the frame, as well as, a small mount to hold the trailer light connector. Slapped on a new mile marker hub until I find out if those unobtainable warm jeep hubs exist. Then went to my local stump to mall crawl.

I was in that boat not too long ago, due to a long series of unfortunate events. Not completely out of the woods yet, but I now have three that run and drive. Still have to squash a bunch of bugs with the one (green Ranger), but it does what it’s supposed to and all the important stuff is new. Choptop still needs the gas tank replaced (I have a new one already) and the front axle needs some issues resolved, but it now runs and drives. F-150 is what I was down to and it needs a major overhaul badly, but now that I’m not using it as a DD, I should be able to limp it along a bit. It’s been behaving much better since it’s been pulled from DD use. I’m getting a newly used frame and cab for it in a few weeks, but probably won’t start on that till next year.

Next project is to get the dump truck fixed, which will help by the fact that a dump truck is quite handy especially with cleaning up and fixing up property and that it will give me another big truck around which will allow me to take the F-150 out of service long enough to overhaul. Also need to finish the resto-mod I started on my 88 B2. That all should keep me busy for the next year. I’ll figure out the rest as I go along.
Yeah health issues over the past 16 years has me really behind on everything. Now i just went through a break up after 22 years with a lady. We shall make my friend.

Whatt hubs did you end up using?

Currently I'm using the mechanical auto lock hubs. I haven't used 4x4 at all lately so I don't even know what state they're in.

The Bronco is currently undergoing a huge overhaul and its nearly time to return to woods driving. I'm held up by the local driveshaft shop.

I like them, I think they look great. But I hear some people think that size is just like an indicator bulb. I’m not gonna mention any names, but…

Sometimes you order 7” lights and they send you 9” lights.

Yeah, I hear all of that, I’ve had my own issues. Sometimes you just gotta put your head down and keep plugging away.

Since there is one nice day left before poor weather hits, I finished a few things:
  • I finished taking care of vacuum leaks with the supercharger install. I'll keep the air cleaner setup this way until I find the correct pulley size for the M90. With winter coming, I am not horribly concerned with the air temps. The intercooler is just waiting for install.
  • Added these supercharger badges on the front.
  • I removed the large FORD decal across the tailgate and added this Ranger decal along the bottom.

That looks good, I’ve been eyeing those as a way to transport my 12’ paddle board without it sticking way out the back. How do you like it overall?
Honestly I love it. Makes the lol ranger feel a little more substantial or maybe it has more presence? It's in crazy good shape for only 100 bucks of fb marketplace.

I’ve kicked around the idea of building a ladder rack for a Ranger but haven’t done it. I have an aluminum cap with a rack on it and I have the F-150 with a rack, and as soon as I get it fixed, a dump truck with a rack. So, a rack may not happen on one of my rangers. At least for now.
This one was 100 bucks off fb market someone sprayed it flat black, but everywhere is flaking of the powder coat underneath looks really brand new. I couldn't have built one nearly this nice for that.

Yeah, that’s definitely cheaper than the steel to build it

Friday I parked the Missing Linc on the front driveway, which is pretty steep after they “fixed“ the road, facing in/down. I rarely park anything out front.

Sooo, when I got up for church today and headed out, there was a nice little grease spot under the rear end. So when I got home, I pulled it in the back and checked the diff level. The level was fine, but once I was underneath, it’s obvious it’s been leaking for a little while because there’s a little oil spray around the underside of the truck in line with the universal which was also wet. So I ordered a pinion seal.

I once again ask the wise ones to chime in on what I need to know when I change out the seal.

God forbid they should all work okay at the same time…,

Oh, wise ones….

No one spoke up when I first posted this. My pinion seal came in. It’s my understanding there is some special trick about taking the nut off and putting the nut back on so you don’t mess up the rear end. My plan is just to mark it and carefully remove it, and then put it back on exactly the same place. Is there more to it than that? All help appreciated.

Technically to install that but you you need to measure the “torque to turn” the pinion. Measuring how much torque required to turn the pinion.
It’s supposed to be done with the differential removed though. So only measuring the load of the pinion.

The TTT is different with new or old crush sleeve as well.

If just replacing the seal, and you don’t want to disassemble the hole rear, most people will just mark it and make sure it gets put back where it was.

Turned 210k today. Still runs great. Putting on about 250 to 300 miles a week. Dropped off some furniture at the Goodwill and noticed I can see the road through the front end of the bed...

THANK YOU!

It’s probably not going to happen this weekend because we have rain till Monday, but I truly appreciate the guidance.

And, oh, don't worry..,,

Go Braves!!!!!
