I’m never going to go test drive Electric Vehicles

Is the powerboost on your list? That might be worth a test drive too.

I was trying to avoid hybrids, but can add it.

Saw one in inventory at the dealer. I'll see if I can talk them into it.

Tbh, I wouldn't even consider them for my fleet trucks at that MSRP.

Aside from the fact I can't charge them at a well site or at a hotel, $95k+ for a friggin pickup is comical - I would never recover the costs of that truck during its service life in the field. I have put good refurbished 1 tons in the garage for half that. 1 tons come with a ROI - they can do heavy work. 1/2 tons are runners/transport - zero ROI. So this thing would be a sunk cost before the ink dried.

But. This is being done for science. And for science we shall continue.
You’re in business to make money, you have to care about ROI. In my business, we’re just there to spend money… we’re going to be getting EVs.

I think you should look at 3-wheeled scooters. You're going to need one someday....

Rivian. Truck or SUV. 400 mile range on the big battery, can smoke the Ram with the Hellcat engine, and is a fairly decent 4x4.

*under ideal conditions

Ford F150 Platinum is 97,590 on local dealer's lot (OK Cdn pesos), but new trucks are just stupid expensive...

F150 Platinum Lightning is 121k in Cdn. pesos for reference

Sounds a lot more like insurance fraud than an issue with the truck involved.

Not even sure where to test drive one of those tbh... I'll look around. That one... may be difficult.

Either way, look at the design of that bed.

Beyond weird.

Definitely not a utilitarian look, that's for sure.

I'm no automotive engineer, but uh... wat.

I wouldn't care if it had a Demon engine in it and Horace and John Dodge delivered it to my house... that uh... that makes no sense.

I hate the front end on those. All that black plastic with no actual grill makes it look like the dollar general fan i just bought

That is a stock photo of a lower spec trim. Not a Platinum.
Not saying the Platinum is a whole lot better, but it is better.

In fairness, I doubt you'd buy any Platinum trim type vehicle for general fleet use. They do offer the Lightning in a work truck type trim (forget the package name) that's still pretty well equipped and IIRC it's in line price wise with XLT. Around $50k when I saw it a year or so ago.

I would love to know what all they did to justify it.

As far as insurance fraud that is getting close to a total loss.

For that kind of disparity I would think they would have had to send an inspector out to look at it...

Who knows what kind of half baked repair procedures a startup would come up with too.
