I have a 2001 with the duratec 2.3, 2wd 5spd. What motors can i swap in that are the simplest other than something identical because im having trouble finding one. Have a guy with one from a 2000 but i dont if it would work. Please help and thanks.

2.3L ('83-'97) Engine swap

your transmission will only bolt to the 2.3 (or Fusion 2.5) Duratec. any other motor requires a transmission to match that engine.
a 2.3 out of a front drive vehicle can be made to work with a couple modifications, the timing cover/with pulley being one.
DO NOT loosen the harmonic balancer bolt, doing so WILL REQUIRE re-timing the cam shafts.
Fusion 2.5 I-4 requires some parts swapping to work. it can get quite involved.
