TRS Event 2022 TRS Fall Off-Road Round-Up

Coming into the south end of Attica via paved cattle trail thanks to a GPS screwup.

At least your GPS didn’t send you down a dirt road… it was a well groomed dirt road, but it was still a dirt road.

At least your GPS didn’t send you down a dirt road… it was a well groomed dirt road, but it was still a dirt road.

Very twisty windy, pitch dark, unpainted road with lots of oncoming traffic and trees right up against the road. I ran 30mph thru most of out out of fear of wacking a deer.

On the way home, Monday, my phone and display screen got mad at each other. The GPS had decided to take me home via a route I was not expecting. Then the video locked up and I had no map to look at. I was sure I knew where hwy 9 would take me. But the GPS voice kept trying to make me turn. Finally, I ignored it and went on. The road came out where I expected in familiar territory. But along the way, the road was extremely narrow and twisty, taking switchbacks up and down the mountains of western North Carolina - a challenge for my extended cab Fun50 with 20ft car trailer. And I was running low on fuel. It all turned out fine.

Rolled at 11pm local time, big thanks to Eric and Jim for using their truck lights to help light our campsite to get tent set up.

New scenery in the campground, the thing tracks the sun across the sky.

Pretty dusty on the trails this year:

Eric B doing Photo things...

Figured out how to do a thing...

If I could go back in time I would get on the radio and have yall angle more. It almost looks like a brochure as it is though...

Eric got good and hung up on both axles.

Our fearless leader came to the rescue!

This thing lumbered out of nowhere, perched for a quick break and then continued on its way not really caring about what was in front of it...

Back to camp to try to get little guy to eat lunch and take a nap.

Time to wake up the '85.

Here is Pecos Jim riding around on tornadoes of dust...

So then I come over and ask what she thought. "I thought you would show me more than dust" Alrighty then, I know where there is somewhere where there isn't just dust.

Really proud of how she did, it was awesome watching her do it pretty much on her own.

Even the puppy was curious how Eric got stuck.

@Mrs. Eighty Five and Oliver

I’m terrible with remembering to take pictures. I only took 1 pic the entire weekend…

@Mattman347 This ones for you:

Oliver actually slept thru the tubes, she proposed we head back and try to get him to finish a decent nap after our late night getting there.

Didn't happen.

Got back to camp and he woke up ready to go.

She had been having enough fun I guess and we had an hour yet so she wanted to go back out. There was an area we had never been to near the gate she wanted to try.

Just really neat area. Nothing crazy weird but varied enough to be somewhat of a challenge and fairly scenic too. Really if you show up with a stockish rig and not much experience it is a great playground for you.

And, on this first sunny day possible after packing up wet, we set it all up and dry it out. Just noticed I bought a tent the same color as my house.

It was nice when we got home so I tossed our tent up then. Oliver and I took it down last night.

Made it back to camp:

So then I got busy getting the trucks ready to go home since they were talking rain the next day. And before I knew it it... it was pizza time!

Had a good time sitting around and BS'ing after supper.

I made my famous peach cobbler. It was really super close to being done but we had a huge downpour come thru and wash out the fire. I thought it was good though. Fun fact I grabbed the wrong eggs and ended up making it with duck eggs. Plot twist, they have like cast iron shells compared to chicken eggs and I think they might be the way to go for camping in the future.

Taken at around midnight

Breaking camp getting ready to head home :bawling:

Darn car got wet though...

Amanda wanted a sticker so we did our traditional gift shop run in the Ranger.

Our full group before we took off:

Packing continues...

Back on the road and heading west...

Driving in the rain ahead of the cold front... the A/C was freaking nice.

Once we got thru the front I just ran the fan, most of Monday it was so cool I ran the heater half the way home too.

Pulled over for a breather in Peoria, found a unique brick parking lot to cool our tires on. Oliver ended up with a toy Ashton Martin car from Micheal's in the process.

Westbound and down...

Crossing back into Iowa

Letting the little guy stretch a bit

Snagged a hotel in Ottumwa Iowa for the night.

Kinda brisk outside.

If anybody wonders how Oliver traveled...

And that concludes our trip. Now onto editing video...

I didn't notice you did a RHD swap... or that all your shirts were spelled backwards
