New Truck Thoughts

Yeah, i was going to say the newer 150's have very high tow ratings, probably more than your old 250.... I would have been wrong, but not by much.

Try to buy a brand new v8 tundra.

I don't have an Ecoboost in my ranger for one reason.

Because in my application....it will be in boost....and not eco. Ever.

If I wanted a badass power engine then for sure I would run the 3.5. it blows away any v8 gas engine.....save for hellcats and whips that in economy and can still keep up.

How and where you generally drive is a factor. Lift and wheels are a huge factor.

The 150 properly equipped is rated to 14k

Any are good for 9 k....even if it's a shit model...it says 7200....but if you get a brake controller they are plenty of truck.

If you regularly haul more then 10k....get a 350. 13k get a 450.

That's a small group.

I would be tempted to trade on a 5.0 150...but if your going to lift a tow rig and put dumb tires on it .. diesel 250

So clearly the tow ratings I found are not the maxed versions, damn you Google. I will ask the dealer with the config I spec'd. Either way all I'll be towing is the BII possibly my Vette and a 3930 New Holland which would be seldom. I'm positive the 150 would be adequate for me I just know I will regret the sale of the 250. More so my thoughts, less personal property tax, less insurance, pretty similar fuel to my ranger, no vehicle payment, more money into retirement and in an economy that's paying me more for a 4 yr older truck than when I bought it that is inevitably going to tank and fall into recession what is my better option. Or will the ranger be paid for by then and it won't matter..? Haha the gambles of life..

FYI Ecoboost is not in my mind may be more power etc just don't want that route. And Ford is the only option.

Yeah, if you are going to do more than occasional towing or most of your towing is long trips, I would avoid the Ecoboost.

Like I said....I would be tempted to the 5.0

The post 17, 5.0 is way better then the earlier unit.

I love the ecoboost engines .. and would never take the previous 5.0 over a boost, but the current iterations are tops....just great value.

For my use towing ... I have to use the ecoboost and max tow.

Otherwise we would have a 2.7 or 5.0 sport.

Though....looks like I will buy her a Tahoe next. The bronco she says is too small.

I often find my F150 is too big or too small most of the time. For the same footprint compared to way more towing/payload capacity, I would way rather have a 3/4 ton over my F150. However, the ranger is perfect for small hauls. Also everyone loves and wants my ranger.

For what run describes...I would use the ranger.

Stock to stock as delivered. My 150 is better then the 250 to 10k

Way better. Way way way better.

But not 25k better...

5.0? Or boosted? If V8 what’s the fuel mileage, thanks.
The max tow package only comes with the 3.5L Ecoboost.
I’ll have to check the fuel mileage later tonight when I leave work... but you can expect to get better mileage than I get. My gas pedal is used more like an on/off switch, unlike normal drivers.

I think I’m getting 17 MPG overall average. The trucks got under 20k on it and 5k of that is towing.

They all get about 17....

Except....

GODZILLA.

Godzilla ... Yeah ... 17 mpg . ..no

I’m pretty much down to if I can walk with a new truck no payment they can have mine. If not I’ll keep driving. Not sure if it’s the right decision but we shall see. Thinking of economic downturn no payment will benefit me. The leading dealer will order one with no strings attached so, worth a shot if they agree, in my mind.

Fantastic answer to both of you. My 250 gets about 10 with the tires. Towing not towing sitting still 100mph or 10k lbs. it gets 10

reminds me of my old F-150 with a 4.9 and 5apd.

15mpg. That was it.

Loaded to the bump stops up hill the whole way? 15mpg.

Empty, down hill, with a tail wind? 15 mpg.

The only way you could tell the difference was how long it took to stop.

And, that was with 3.08s, switched to 3.55s and started getting 18mpg on my way to work. Don’t think it would have been able to hit 70mph at that point though.

To bad I never got to find out.

So the local dealer near my work made me an offer I could not refuse yesterday. Send them the build sheet on what I want, they will order it no money down. When it comes in I look at it they eval my trades at that time and if I don't like the deal I walk away no strings attached. So, lets play the waiting game. Do not see how I can go wrong with that...…

nice.

none of the dealer could come up with any deal worth doing for my titan so i am keeping her. i drove all the f150s and loved the 5.0 but didn't want to pay that much and even Nissan couldn't come close on a new titan so my 17 stays with me. i guess its time to find an exhaust for it so it sounds as cool as it goes.
