1994 Ford ranger 6cyl 4L turbo,supercharger

Does anyone know where I’ll be able to see if my truck is capable of having a turbo or supercharger on it and also where is the best place to get them or should I just get a universal one? Are there any vidoes of people doing this on a Ford ranger 1994 6cyl 4L

No, not racing “yet” but I’m just trying to build a nice sleeper

Any vehicle can be super or turbo charged. If you already understand how engines work the research turbo/supercharged basic principals. Universal kits can be a good start but getting a notepad tape measure and figuring how you want to place things like intercoolers, blow off valves, intercooler pipes, etc. Is generally the best place to start! Hope this helps

American Muscle has a Procharger kit for the 4.0 Mustang. Don't know how well it would fit in a Ranger. I suspect the Ranger's engine compartment is big enough to handle it. You'll have to sort through all the different kits in the link below. There's actually a lot of them. Don't know if they would work on a 94 either. Most of these are for 05 and up.

The above would be for the 4.0l SOHC engines, there wasn't much for the 4.0l OHV

I think Morana Racing did have an intake adapter for the 4.0l OHV to add a super charger
Wasn't cheap, thinking $800-$900 for that adapter

You would want to stay below 5psi boost, 4psi would be close to max. with stock engine internal parts

For the money and end result, I think you would be way better off doing an explorer V8 swap to get the sleeper you want, and you could run "regular" gas, lol
And way more upgrades available for the 302/5.0l V8s than the 4.0l OHV if you wanted a little more power down the road, or to start off with

And of course....."there is no replacement for displacement"

If you have the capability and wherewithal to do such a swap, sure. If not, finding someone willing to do it for you could be difficult. I'd love to have a V-8 under my Ranger's hood. But with work and such, will never have the time do do it.

I'll always remember the Cars and Covfefe show I was at one morning. Heard this rumbling of a well built V-8. Looking around, couldn't see anything moving but a black primered Ranger. That was it. Ratrod Ranger with a well built 302 under the hood.

I would look at getting the truck to use the power it has. Decide what exactly youre doing; drag or road race or rally or? Build the suspension for the application you decide on. Sinking $2000 into the motor wont be the end. Now you have to build the trans to handle the increased power. Then all of a sudden your rear tires are breaking loose so you have to tune or upgrade the suspension to handle the power. And most likely the stock gearing isnt going to be what you want. Dont start with the motor, it will just eat money most 17 year olds cant afford.

alwaysFIOoReD is correct; build the suspension for your intended end use 1st, then gear/axle, brakes, transmission and then add the power/powerplant that you already built your entire vehicle around.

Not to be rude, as I've been where you are myself.. but yeah your kinda in over your head.. at least with wanting a fast ranger.

If you were driving something that had an LS motor in it that 2000 would be more than enough to make a wild amount of power reliably. Unfortunately, ranger motors aren't as robust.
