Cybertruck Reveal

I went from being the remote control... to controlling the entire house from a touch pad.

Is a different type of propulsion system really that far of a stretch?

I say no.

We will adapt easily... and gonna be a fun ride for me.

After bobby shows me the way
Im not passionate about many things. But engines are one of those things. Its why i get so fired up over this kinda stuff.

Its not that i fear EV's themselves...but what i fear is the day either IC is tottally banned or gasoline stations are no longer around.

Thats what bothers me.

I would absolutely expect a comparably weighted and like drive train (4wd or 2wd) EV to be competitive or even superior to an ICEV in a bumper pull match. The instant torque from the EV is hard to match. To me, that video proves very little. I'll be happy to hook to the Teslas overgrown Power Wheels with my 6.7 in 4wd. I could probably just hold the brakes until the batteries died in the EV. :ROFLMAO:

I'm a lot like @Grumpaw, I think EV's will continue to take over market share and possibly completely consume it sometime in the future. I don't think it will be in my lifetime though. I have no problem with an EV once the infrastructure is fully in place to support them and they come up with a better/faster method for "refueling". I don't really get why everyone is so up on full EV's right now, when hybrid is really the only practical application FOR MOST PEOPLE (there are exceptions to every rule) right now. Why stop to re-charge when you can have your charger on board? I know, I know, that's still using fossil fuels. So what, they are going to be used somewhere. Hydrogen is the real answer. Someone just needs to crack the code on extracting it cost effectively.

there will certainly something in it's place rusty...

that place just might be a solar charging station in your own back yard.

while amazon drones drop of the weeks supply of toilet paper.

I cant charge a carburated big block with a solar panel.

To me, most vehicles (espicially older fords and even older mopars) have a soul.

EVs to me are nothing more then a fridge. Nothing to be passionate about. A worthless throw away appliance with no redeeming value.

It won't happen for a long, long time if it ever does.

Now they are making gas from algae, we can make it from yard waste... it isn't going anywhere for a very long time.

I wouldn't worry about it.

And if they do, convert to propane.

I seen a shell (i think) commercial about the algae fuel. I was kinda wondering how that worked.

Funny thing... some people feel that very way for what you hold near and dear.

You and I will probably not live to see the day you can't buy 30 gallons of fuel.

That's why I'm gonna buy a shiny New Bronco and take good care of it.

If i had a use for a new bronco id own one too lol.

Its been around for awhile, they can make both diesel and gasoline with it.

Sounds like excuses to me.

The challenge stands.

What are you scared of? A measly ol 22 yr old EEC IV speed density big block?

If you cant compete with that...then lets drop it.

Besides, its gonna be a few years before they hit the market anyways, if battery tech is advanceing as fast as you say it shouldnt be an issue should it?

Actually...tell ya what. Youre scared of distance? Lets overload the piss out of them both and find a nice steep hill to start at the bottom of.

Im not scared...are you?
Rusty, you're in no position to call people out on challenges. People on this forum have done that for years to you and you've never been willing to stand up for a single one when it came to it.

also, to add to the "f150 should tow 8k easily" no. i towed my ranger with a buddys newer (2017-2018 i think) 5.0 f150. 4020# on the ranger and 2-2500# trailer. well call it 7000 pounds total and it was NOT a piece of cake

I don’t know what you were doing wrong?!?!
I towed my 1979 F350 Supercab, 8’ bed, 460 on a full steel deck car trailer behind my 2017 F150 CCSB, 5.0, lifted 6”, 35” tires, 3.31 gears... I won’t use the line, like it was nothing, because you knew it was back there but it definitely wasn’t struggling.

Alot of "probably's and should be's" but only a real test should be preformed.
On paper it looks good, but "on paper" Ford says my 30 foot motorhome on an E-450 V-10 chassis should get 9-10 mpg, but in 8 years have NEVER obtained that mileage.
That should also apply to the Tesla...It's "supposed" to get X # of miles between charges, and "supposed" to take X amount of time to charge.
You cannot "assume" !!! The Tesla is "supposed" to get a certain # of miles per charge, but that was based on an empty vehicle.
Latch up 4 to 5 tons of trailer behind it and start pulling up a 6-7 % grade thru the Rockies, and then tell me what the "miles per charge" are.

So, again, put em up to a true face off, trailer to trailer of exact same weight across I-80 where you will run into every type of flat and mountain driving.
Maybe even throw an "emergency" into the mix where they both break down and see where they get towed too, and how long a repair takes...(where ya gonna tow the Tesla too for a motor repair ?)

Maybe 20 years from now when everything is in place and reliability has surpassed "supposed to bee's" I would look at one. It WILL happen, just not very quickly.
Look at battery powered tools. When they first appeared no onw would use them, they were low on power and wouldn't last any time at all.
Now, everyone owns one, their reliable and batteries last a long time, both in use and in life. It took 25 years, but it happened.
Same thing will happen with EV's, but it will take awhile.
But now, I wouldn't waste 30 minutes of my time to even test drive one.
Grumpaw

I don't have any battery powered tools. All my tools have good old fashioned cords on them. Never had one fail. When I used to use battery powered tools, I had multiple batteries die on me. Tossed them all and went back to cord tools.

I don't expect us to stay in a gas powered world forever. I don't want to see it go away forever, but I would like to see cleaner and renewable options.

We drove on the moon in an electric vehicle. Someday we'll likely put a vehicle on another planet and explore it. That vehicle would likely need to be able to tow and haul gear and equipment.

Hell, it will probably be built by SpaceX.
