Would you trust a single flaring where a double should be?

I had a blow out at the end of the day at work, my tool wouldn't bite the steel line hard enough to smash the first stage, so I just ran the cone down to get something the nut could bite to so I could get the line down and get home to where my better supplies were, cleaned it off, tested it gingerly and headed out.

When I got home I stood ont the pedal as hard as I could with the engine running, and it felt like it was holding. I got under, inspected it, and the line is still dry.

So I guess the question is, would you trust it, or would you make a new line that is flared properly at both ends?

I think why a double flare is required is because a split in the flare would be a lot more obvious. Also less easy to make the flare off center. Could also have something to do with work hardened metal that can crack over time. As a temporary measure I would be fine with it but would plan on doing a double flare asap.

I agree with this.

Well the line I made tonight is super ugly, the wrong length, partially kinked, and I reused the old rusty line nuts. This was very literally throw together from ppieces I had available.

The rub is that this is one of my only two operational vehicles right now. I am just trying to decide if I can trust it until next week when I actually have the time to do it right, or if I need to get up and out the door extra early to fix it tomorrow morning.

Front or rear?
How good are the shoes?

Its on a rear line. The rear shoes are good, although I have an adjuster pawl that has a some stress damage. I haven't had time to order one yet.

I'd carefully trust it until next week but fix it then.

I've been slowly replacing all the lines on my 98. Sometimes before they leak...

If the line blows you will still have 70% brakes left. Leave it til next week.

If it’s holding, I would trust it for the short term but would look to fix that as time and money allows.

yeah....short term....month if your not on a bumpy ass road....

hmmmm.... errrr.. there are no non bumpy ass roads in PA......but a few weeks i would not be too worried as long as your the only driver.

the single fails with vibration/work hardening rapidly compared to a double.

I'm surprised you even got it to seal...

In my humble opinion... it's an accident waiting to happen.

Every time ive done a brake line its a single flare.

Never had a flare blow out.

Rusty... love you man

But this is one of the dumbest things I've seen you post... sorry

I will stick with my statement..

A single flare on a brake line is an accident waiting to happen. I will modify it to say that it is not a matter of if it will fail but a matter of when it will fail. Chances are... it will happen at the worst possible moment in time.

I’m with rusty. I’ve been doing single flares for years. Never an issue.

the new copper type stuff flares so nice. It’s well worth the few extra bucks

Oh good lord...

You guys can't be serious?
