D35 SLA Oil Leak

After installing the live axles from a '99 Explorer, the passenger side is dripping from where the CV axle and diff housing meet.

I need to rotate my tires anyway, so I can take a closer look then.

Has anyone else had this issue?

Sounds like you have a bad seal of some sort.

If it is where the axle tube meets the pumpkin you will have to take it all apart and reseal that joint. Not hard, just going to take some time to do. I'd probably drop the axle back out to do it.

It is right where the CV meets the arm coming off the pumpkin.

there is a seal in the end of the tube, easy to replace. be sure to clean and polish the back side of the CV where the seal rides. pre-lube the new seal.
there is a needle bearing inside the tube behind the seal. the axle shaft inside the tube should not have noticeable side play.

OK, that makes more sense, but I figured nobody could not know about needing to replace an axle seal.

Make sure you get all the seal adhesive material off the tube too. Brake cleaner melts the stuff, so if you just spray it down and wait about ten seconds you can just wipe it off with a rag.
