whats everyones average MPG?

I agree the bull guard and the ladder rack do hurt my gas mileage but if I can only gain 1-2 mpg if I ditch those items then its not worth it for me.

With a Westin Sportsman brush guard on my F-150 I didn't see any change in mileage. I have had it off a few times to paint it and I don't see any fluctuation.

See I was thinking the same thing. Everyone says the extra weight hurts the gas mileage and it supposedly hurts the air flow. Not sure about either of those because my gas mileage hasn't been the greatest since I got the truck. I did put the ladder rack on almost immediately after getting the truck. That does cause drag in the wind so I can see that hurting the gas mileage. i think I may take the bull guard off to put another layer of bed liner paint on it and see if there is any difference. i'd rather keep my accessories than gain 1-2 mpg. I drive a lot so gas doesn't really bother me. i'm not a freak about getting so much mpg or so many miles on a tank. just think a 2wd ranger should get better than the 15-16 I've been getting.

'88 Ranger hovers between 17 and 19, depends on the time of year. Seen as high as 21 and as low as 14.

'86 Ranger is usually around 13-15.

'92 Explorer, usually around 17, but I have seen up to 23.

My super duty has never been over 10 and usually averages about 7.5-8, but it ALWAYS has a trailer or load of some sort behind it.

4.0 swapped 86in signature gets between 16 and 22 depending on time of year and type of driving, it hates the interstate though and will only pull 13 there, so i just stay off it.
98 4x2 with a 2.5 and manual trans and 3.73 gears that I drive mostly during winter and on long trips gets 22-25 mpg in mixed driving and 29-30 if i stick it on the interstate at 75mph.

2010 ext cab 4x4 total of 5 in lift with 4.10 gears 5 speed with tuner and 265/75/16 Bfg AT nets me 16-17 mpgs average. No complaints, although before all mods I was getting 19 mpgs running 70-75 mph hwy

FYI, adding tuner (just a boxed tune) netted me an additional 2 mpgs, that's after my. Mods. Was only seeing 14-15 mpgs before tuner

Just an FYI, small improvements can mean big savings when you're getting poor fuel economy to start with. Going from 12mpg to 15 mpg can save the same amount of money as going from 30mpg to 60mpg:

Don't dismiss a 1 or 2 mpg gain when you're only seeing 15mpg to start with. Especially if you drive a lot of miles. If you like the brush guard and ladder rack, that's fine. It's your truck to do what you want with. Just understand that they're costing you money, and the more you drive, the more that adds up.

How long do you leave the truck to idle/warm up when cold before you move it? You won't get the summer figures during the winter, that's just not possible.

You've got the same powertrain that I have, but I have a reg cab/shortbox (small tank) right now in this deep freeze the fuel mileage has dropped near 30% over what I get in the summer (530 kilometres (330 miles) down to 350 kilometres (220 miles) , some of that loss is due to letting the engine warm up before actually moving the truck.

Being the truck is very light at the back end the only weight I carry is 250lbs. over the rear axle for traction in the snow.

Have a 4" spindle lift/rear lift and 30.5" tires and 4:10 rear end. I get around 25-27mpg depending on driving. I drive mostly highway.

33 in tires....20-25 at 50-55 mph high teens 60 plus. 80 is 14-15.


35-37 in tires....15 hiway....70 ish

14-17 town.

The Duratec is a nice engine. My stock 01 4cyl/5 spd gets 30mpg in all but the coldest winter weather.

1990 extended cab, 2.9 auto 2WD. 5.x mpg. Pathetic, I know. But, I live in a REALLY small town, and most of the places I go are less than a mile away, so it never really warms up.
