Help !

I have a 1996 Ford ranger xlt 3.0 v6 . it keeps puttering out ,but only when fully warmed up . I have just flushed ,the radiator as well as reverse flushed,and changed the thermostat to a 192 degree one . that only prolonged its running time about 30 minutes before it has died again . I pulled the spark plugs and the #6 plug has oil all over it ,is this what's causing it to die after running for a while ?

Is the plug covered with oil or fuel? It can be hard to tell the difference sometimes. Sounds like you might have a bad coil, but that's just a wild guess from the little info I have. Are there any codes in the system? Can you test for spark when the problem occurs? Also, if it is oil on the plug and not fuel, you may have oil on your MAF sensor. If that's the case, it might run better after cleaning it, but if there is oil that far up the inlet tract, you have some severe engine problems.

Sounds like you might have a bad coil,

I've had this problem with a couple of vehicles. Starts fine, warms up and dies. The coil paks get hot and fail, but work fine when cold. Do you know anyone with the same motor so you could swap coil paks to test? (they're expensive, and not returnable)
