it'll be my rainy day boat, the grady is still the better fishing boat for fair weather.

I want to go fishing now!

That would be awesome. It's one helluva trip from Houston to Haida Gwaii though! If I've even remotely close to that greater area, you can bet I'll take you up on that offer one day.

I'll have to take a picture of some of the bass fishing we got around here. Do you take your kids fishing much?

well, anytime you can get to this end of the world(or 'edge of the world' as we call it here)you're always welcome.

as for the kids, they don't seem to be too into it.the covered boat may make a difference,we'll find out next spring i guess.

still a ways to spring, but i'm working on the equipment.

when i bought this boat it had a 302/mercruiser drive.the 302 had been siezed from water getting into the oil(i didn't bother finding out why)and the leg was grindy,so it all came out and hauled to the dump.
i tossed together an aluminum pod and got a merc 200 ready for a hangin'.

still gotta do all the hookups, and some paint and upholstery work, but it's one step off the to-do list.
this old girl will be ready to fish for spring,i have downriggers and such to get it fully equipped as a secondary rig,and will have it available as a courtesy/rental boat for folks who come to the islands and have boat trouble,so they don't have to miss out on the fishing they paid so much to come up and experience.

no,not till closer to spring.i'll only be running three engines for a short time-my ultimate goal is to break 100mph,but i have to work to that in stages as it gets very dangerous as the speed goes up that high.
a small swell can rip the bottom of the boat out or a pocket of air can get under the boat and flip it.we've all seen the vids on those 'disaster' type shows.

the pocket of air i'm quite familiar with! (not personally, disaster videos like you) the swell ripping the bottom of the boat off, damn! never seen that, but i've water skiied and it was like concrete when i went down, so i'll believe it...

i remember seeing videos of some single hulled boats racing, and you get the shots of them from the right angle, showing the contact patch, and it's more or less the motor is in the water, and the entire hull is about 1/2" off the water cruising across the lake, a small skip every 30 feet or so... would be pretty rad to see something like that on open water, none the less an open boat that is more or less home built!

there have been several people who's boats were destroyed by hitting swells while trying to set speed records, like this one:

i know from witness reports that at 60mph there's only a couple inches of hull in the water with my boat,at 100mph it may well be just riding the cav plates on the engines.

:icon_surprised::shok: Holy :icon_twisted::3gears: Horsepower Batman!
How many people gave ya the "toss him in the looney bin" look at the ramp? :icon_thumby::beer:

oh,i got some comments.

wait till i bolt the third one on....i'm getting the parts together now.

Wouldnt you want reverse screws or is that only important on horizontal crank engines? It just seems your gonna constantly be fighting the wheel with both props spinning clockwise.
