What's the best tranny

What is the best 5 spd to get for a 86 ranger with a 4.0? I lost of and wanna get another just not sure what to look for. If you guys can tell me what to get the tranny out of that would be great. Thank you

Even out of a 2.3 I read somewhere 2.3 and 4.0 r the same

Hell, putting a 2.9 tranny behind a 4.0 is a no-no.

Yea I swapped in the 4.0 and had the 2.9 tranny behind it for two years now and just lost of yesterday. So just get a 4.0 tranny?

I would look for one from an Explorer or a 4.0L aerostar......... these guys tell me I am nuts but the Explorer and Aerostar transmissions always felt a little stronger...... like maybe they had extra clutch packs and steels in them.

So I got a m5od for 125 with transfer case. Am I going to need a gasket inbetween the tranny and t case? Is replacing the front and rear seal easy and a good thing to do while it's out?
