flip the axel or flip the shakel?

i have a 93 ext cab ranger and a very tight buget, i would like to make her sit level for the time being so should i just flip the rear shakels or should i flip the axel?? in time i will do both when i can drop the frunt too but what should i start with in the back??? any imput is good, thanks.

Mounting the axle above the spring will give you much more drop than you want, about 5-6". I'm not sure how much flipping the shackle will give you, but that information is somewhere on this site if you search.

shackel flip is about a 2 inc drop if i remember right

it should sit pretty close to level by doing a shackle flip.....and you won't have as much of a problem with a rough ride caused by the axle hitting the bump stops.....like you would with an axle flip.

flip the axial and get some beltec 6400 shackles. they lift the trucks 2 inches so if you flip the shackles it should lower an other 2 inches.....4 inc drop very easy and cheep......if the shackle will fit

when i flip the shakels this week do i need to pull the bed off or can i do it with it on? it looks tight but not to bad.

Should be doable with it on, but the bed's only 6 bolts and 2 wiring clips to remove and it'll make it much easier.

I will say from experience .. I did the rear suspension work on my 2wd with the bed off (look at my build thread for pics) and it was a piece of cake .. I had to replace a shackle on my 4x4 and i did that with the bed on and it was a major PIA...

There is not enough room to do that, plus it would throw the pinion angle way off.

actually......you can unbolt the bed & chock the rear of it up on the chassis enuff that you can do the mod without hurting your back by taking the bed completely off the truck......................


you can also adjust the rear end to get the pinion angle back in tolerance again!!!!!!

i did an axle flip on mine and it went a little too low for me so i added a chevy lowering shackle one inch which gave me one inch lift to keep a clean rake.

I mean there is not enough room to flip the shackle AND put a chevy shackle on it. Flipping you axle is where its at if you want 4" of drop.

Also I forgot to mention I did not have to remove my bed to do the flip kit. DJM nailed the drive shaft angle with the kit. Truck rides like it did factory. I don't think you would be disappointed.
