Question 4.0 guy with a question

I have a 4.0, so I don't know much about the 4 cylinders. I've seen some talk here and there about Duratec's being in a Ranger. But, did the Ranger ever come factory with a Duratec 4 cylinder? And what size was it if so?

I appreciate the help. I have a friend that has been hounding me to sell him my truck, and I'm seeing what my options are. I'd like to get better mpg's if I do get a different Ranger. I have a 2.3 Duratec in my Escape, and very much like it's performance.

THANK YOU!!!!!

2.3 Duratecs were the standard engine in Rangers starting mid-year 2001. 30 mpg highway is not unheard of, and they are pretty peppy and fun to drive. I just wish they were available in 4wd...

Yeah 1996 was the last year of the 4WD 4-cyl Ranger, it sucks! BTW, correct me if I'm wrong but 2.3 'tec Escapes have COP, while 2.3 'tec Rangers have a coil pack/conventional plug wires?

Yes my '06 Escape has COP, it works great.

Does the older 4 cylinder have a timing belt or chain? I really like the Duratec's chain set up. I am not a big fan of timing belts =(.

Lima.......isn't that the same one (2.3) that came in the Fox Mustangs?

Yes, the Lima has a timing belt, and yes they were available in Fox Mustangs as well. Starting in 1989 or 1990 they also have pain-in-the-ass 8 spark plugs!

Thanks so much for schooling me guys!!! It's really a shame Ford didn't keep the 4WD option with the Duratec motor.
