I have a 99 2wd with a 3.0L flex fuel engine. Recently had a head gasket failure and this is the first time I've tackled a head on a ford 6. I have two repair manuals one stating to change the head bolts, the other stating to clean and use the old ones.

Does it really make a difference. Normally I would just get the new ones, but it will slow me down, as nobody in town currently has them in stock.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Everything Ive ever read states the 3.0 head bolts are torque to yield, which means they need to be replaced evey time.

Thank you

That seals the deal for me. I'll just have to wait a couple days for the new ones and take in a mardi gras parade or something to pass the time.

Thanks for the info.
