Default Cam Sync Issues

Hi Everyone, I have a 98 Ranger 3.0 Auto, I am having trouble sync'n the cam.

First of all, I would like to say I have tried two mechanics after I thought I had failed but they were unsucessful also.

I had the CEL come on about a month ago, P1309 (Misfire Monitor Disabled)
I replaced the Cam Sensor and inspected the sync. (no problems)

I followed procedure the replace the sync. I used a tool from a local ford guy. I couldn't find the TDC mark on the orginal balancer, so I purchused a new one.

Still had the code.

Brought it to a local machanic, they timed the sync with their tool and still pulled a code. He tried again and again, until he gave up. Still pulled a code.

Went to another machanic and he relized the markings on the balancer were not in the correct position with TDC. So he finds tdc, sets the cam sync with his tool. Still pulls a code...However, the truck is running like new. Lots of power, smooth ride... beautiful right? Nope CEL pulles a code P1309...

I'm at my limit, what else? The Computer? the engine ou tof time?

So I guess I'm looking for suggestions.

When you mess with the timing on your engine do you pull the spout plug before making any adjustments? All timing adjustments, belts, cam, crank, any sensors, all have to be done at the factory default of 10*. This is why you pull hte spout, to allow the system to default, after all adjustments are made and everything is lined up properly, then replace the spout and the engine will advance the timing automatically to the proper degree.

Great suggestion on the SPOUT feellnfroggy. This would explain why the timing wouldn't read correctly.

I have a question for Consiaparra though. I'd like a little history on the CEL. You say the 2nd mechanic got it "running like new". After he fixed it, did he clear the codes? And then did the CEL came back on after it was cleared? Or did he fix it and leave the light on? The reason I ask is, the CEL won't go off as soon as the problem is fixed. It needs to be started several times and ran for a period time before it will clear by itself. Or if you have a scanner that will clear the code, it can be done that way. I'd hope the 2nd mechanic had one of these?

Yes, Both mechanics cleared the codes. They came back.
I'm going to another friends garage to give him a shot at it

X2^ I bought a Napa replacement and it did the same thing within a month of the installation. Spent the extra cash and got the Ford part. No problems since.
