my love for the b2 started when my dad had an 86 when i was YOUNG, well it burnt due to an electrical fire. he replaced it with this 88. when he bought a ford f150 he sold it to my uncle. when i was 13 or 14 we bought it back for me, paid $500 for it. the trans was messed up. i'll try to dig up some pics of when we bought it. it had a custom paint job then, but all stock with the 2.9 and all. first lift was a homemade 2 inch body lift, when i could afford the RC i took the body lift out. Any pics with the EX's bullet hole rims are the stage one of my personal build with the body lift and others..

let me know your comments, no matter how big or small.

also, i am using my build thread to keep up with links to other threads i have started for info for myself

the 4.0 swap is great, mine was a hassle b/c i didn't know to use the ranger wiring harness.. other than the wiring mine was easy. the power and gas mileage is great. i used the whole drivetrain from a 92 explorer. that's what my axles are coming from to, except i'm using disc brakes from 97 ex. i say do the swap. the 4.0 sets on the 2.9 motor mounts. it looks like its made to set there.

Your B2 is ideal for the swap because of the dash. Find a early explorer or a 4.0 ranger w the same engine tranny combo and take the entire harness. Its not that bad. I had prob w power windows and auto tcase. But my donor was a 2wd 94 ranger.

Its well worth any headaches you will have. The key is your donor

yea. ive read up on it a little here latley and it doesnt sound bad at all. i have experience pulling motors and such. im not worried about the power windows mine havent worked since the day i got my b2 2 years ago and ive got a manual tcase so.. if i just pull a 1st gen ex motor should my tranny be fine with the swap? its an auto.

Yeah I'm 20 and it's been a dad and son project for sure. Been a work in progress for about 6 years. Im still excited we were able to get it back. I love this thing. The 4.0 gets decent mileage. Has plenty of power. I mess with the import guys sometimes on the take off. And I work out of it, use it for hunting, daily drive it, and stick it in a BUNCH of mud and a good bit of trails. It's an all around vehicle. I'd let it set in my yard as a decoration before I got rid of it now.

you guys suck. I keep reading your post and i think that its a really bad idea.
you talk about power advantages, how easy it is to do the swap, mileage,
torque. i wish you would keep it to yourself.

This is just making me wanting to take the leap more and more.:D

Lol my bad man, but seriously.... It's well worth it. Just do you're share of research first.

i actually wanted to do a 302 swap at first. then ran into a cheap ex that had been wrecked. i got it all for $300 so... now, i honestly think that a 4.0 swap is so much more beneficial than the 302... its easy, except i had issues with the wiring. but it's doable. and i LOVE the 4.0 in the b2. its amazing.
