Default gear ratio questions

1. what would be the best gear ratio for fuel economy with a 3.0 automatic and 33x12.5s? currently have 3.73s

2. is an installation kit necessary?
thanks

Fuel economy with 33's and a 3.0L does not add up. You will have a tough time at the pumps no matter what gear.

4.10 would help some to get back near what the stock final drive ratio was, if it sees more trail than road maybe go 4.56 to move a little more in the low end area. Also, if your road driving consists of mostly under 55 MPH i would go 4.56

4.10s or lower if you are in town a lot. On the highway I might have said something a bit higher, but 4.10s at least.

4.10 gears should preserve your stock drive ratio pretty closely. 4.56's will drop it a bit and make starting easier. 5.13 gears might not be a bad idea if you stay in town and never go above 55 MPH. Those will kill you if you ever get on the highway though.

Go look at the tire and gear chart. That should give you some idea of what you will be looking at.

thanks ill look at the chart. i was htinking 4.10s too but theyre expensive as hell for the d35, more expensive than 4.56s or other gears. so i might be sticking with my 3.73s

33s and 3.73s will kill you dude. On the highway it would be BA. In town it will suck.

I recommend 4.10's on 3.0 2wd Rangers running smaller tires.

So 4.10's certainly aren't going to hurt...
