Default Solenoid problem

Recently picked up an 88 ranger 4x4, 2.6L The solenoid went ( I think). Car wouldnt turn over, but when I jumped the battery to the solenoid, it started right up. Got a replacement solenoid, installed it, and wouldnt turn over. Jumped this one as well, and it turned right over. Any suggestions?

Check your ignition switch...... sounds like the start position of your switch might be bad

+1 on the switch or a wire from it to the solenoid.
