there was a short blurb on the news about a 4x4 doing a jump in california last night that landed in the crowd, killing 8 and injuring 12.there were no more details than this-anyone else hear of this?

It was on the morning news complete with a video of the trucks coming and jumping and just how close the crowd was to where the trucks were running. Should have never happened.

I've always scratched my head about those kind of things...

Ever watch the rally races and there's a huge crowd of spectators on the OUTSIDE of the corner. They're just asking for that crap to happen.

He said that the driver, who wasn't named, was forced to run from the scene when the crowd grew unruly and some began throwing rocks at him.

Seriously? I mean okay, the guy screwed up, but it wasn't his fault all them people were just chillin' upon there. Can you imagine how he feels? I don't even want to think how terrible that poor fella is feeling for someone else's mistake. I guess that's the way the world goes though... I feel for all the families affected by this incident, including the drivers'.

On MSN they were saying the driver had to flee the scene after the crowd started throwing rocks at him.

Why pick on the driver? I watched on CNN they played it for a full 5 minutes . What a bunch of idiots(CNN). When I saw how close the fans were to the track I knew it was going to happen. Sad day.

i figured it would be something like that-as said,it's unbelievable how close people get when this stuff is going on.

They all just want to be 'part of the action' I guess...

The only way I could blame the driver is if he was on drugs.

I think California needs to ban this sport or have better standards. Or just BAN pre-runners altogether.

I can't imagine how crappy the driver feels right about now. Something happened and now there are EIGHT deaths he has to live with for the rest of his life.

I pray for all those involved and their families.

On the flip side of the coin, why were they so stinkin' close to the action????

On another point, how long before the lawyers get involved? I get a feeling that the driver, race team, and sanctioning body will all have some heavy paperwork in their future.

when i first heard of this this morning,it was just a short line on the scroll at the bottom of the screen.my first thought was, saturday night;it's going to be some drunk kid at a beach party showing off and plowing over his freinds.while the families of the dead and injured may not feel this way, somehow it being a sanctioned event where the speed and jumps are expected and the driver would be in top condition, makes it a little better.still tragic, though.

driver should sue the remaining living spectators for the emotional duress they've caused him by standing too close and causing him to hit them.

Only in America lol

That seems like a non sanctioned event, "hey everyone off the track". Wow if you watch that video, look how close the pedestrians are to the track, let alone on it.

It actually looks more like a tailgate party than a sanctioned event!:shok:

A car plowed into a crowd that had gathered to watch an illegal drag race on a suburban road in Accokeek, Maryland, in February 2008, killing eight people and injuring five. The two racers were charged with vehicular manslaughter. Darren Bullock, 22, was sentenced to 15 years in prison; Tavon Taylor, 20, is awaiting trial. does anyone have a comment about this? is there much difference. should the driver of the truck be charged.
