Default winch wiring and kill switch

hey I have heard of some sorte of remote selenoid wiring for a winch. the idear is to have a selenoid in the engine comportment keeping the heavy gage there and having a smaller gage wire to a switch in the cab. if anyone could help me with this. i'd to have a wiring diagram...i try to figure out the way to reverse the curant...but i can't. also watch kind of selenoid to use. Finaly i like to to put a master kill switch on the truck wondering what is the best place to put it...must be near the batery...maybe in the grill?
thx
