Default restoration project

i have a 88 ranger two door short box, and i am wondering what are some cheap but effective ways of fixing a small rotted spot on the frame, and replacing floor pans. i also would like any ideas for customizing

Cut, grind, weld in new piece, for customising just add mud.

i knew i had to do that but would boxing the spot in keep the strength or is it just a waste of metal, and i going for a street truck, and then eventually a drag truck lol
