building dana 35

ran into a problem with building my dana 35. i bought the yukon gears and install kit from here and i seem to have a problem shimming the pinion. for some reason i looks like i dont have the correct shims. they look wayyyyyyyyy too big for the pinion. and i wasnt sure if i am supposed to shim between the gears of the pinion or shim the race that sits into the dif housing for the pinion. any info would help thanks
 
you shim the race, not the pinion..... make sense :)
 
yep thats all i needed. the kit has those 2 shims with the lips on them. and there are the other shims that just fit down in there perfect
 
So one big one is an oil slinger type deal that goes under the inner bearing. The other one has a lip type thing, you put it under the outer race, facing the pinion head, its kind of like a seal, but not really.

looks like you have a bit of uneven gear contact there. Better get that worked out or it will make noise quick.
 
lol no there is not noise whatsoever, those gears have since had ~5000 km on them. That was a quick pic in the middle of my setup just to show the jig I used to simplify the process. I have done a number of gear installs, all with ZERO noise and/or problems. That was not final pattern OBVIOUSLY.
