Default Swapping to Manual Hubs in '95 Ranger

The Auto hubs in my 217,000 mile '95 Ranger are shot, so I'm going to manual hubs. I'm not building an off-road toy - this is my daily driver and I just want to get up my driveway when it snows.

Where can I get a set of hubs (and the new inner and outer nuts and lock ring/washer) for the lowest price?

I've done my homework and figured out what model hubs fit from what manufacturer, but all the parts stores and online places I've found want close to $200 for the hubs and conversion kit once you start factoring in shipping. My local junkyard doesn't have a set.

I even called the dealership to check on their prices, but the lady on the phone said she couldn't look up which hubs I needed unless I gave her my VIN (which I don't have on hand). She said there were too many different axle ratios and she needed to know which I had before she could look up the right hubs. That doesn't sound right to me.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but all I need are a set of hubs that will fit my Dana 35 axle shafts - regardless of what gears I have. Or am I missing something?

You need hubs AND the spindle nuts.

And these are good candidates for junkyard hunts. Just make sure you clean them out real well and repack them before using them.

Default Manual Hubs

Cullprit

I just order the conversion kit and hubs from a local WARN distributor. The hubs are 190.00 and the conversion kit is another 50.00. I like you looked locally and could find nothing so in the long run it is cheaper to just order it and get it done....

Good luck

Thanks for the replies - and keep em coming!

$120 sounds like the lowest I've found thus far. I have a really hard time believing that my local junkyard doesn't have any - but that's what they said on the phone (they're not a u-pull-it place).

Manual hubs on D35s are not common, so it's very possible they are telling the truth (manual hubs & t-case was a "delete" option for the standard "Touch-Drive" crap during most of the entire time the D35 axle was used).

They very likely DO have the spindle nuts however, they may just not know it (nuts from most D44 axles (fullsize truck) with manual hubs also fit the D35).
Or you could spend $8 a side vs. $50 for Warns overpriced kit (see thread at the top of the forum here)
The D35 hubs themselves will likely have to come from Warn/Milemarker/Superwinch/etc.

The Warn hubs for Jeeps are $159.95

The standard Warn hubs are $151.95

Don't let the pics on their site fool ya, they are the hubs that'll fit a D35 TTB.

Don't buy the $50 conversion kit, check your local aprts stores like NAPA or if you have a $ Wheel Parts store near you, you'll likely spend under $25 for the hub nut kits.

You'll need two of these bags

Culprit, I got my hubs and kit this a.m. and it took me all of 45 minutes to replace the auto lock hubs to manual. Forgot how good 4 wheel drives is suppose to work.

I checked Autozone too, they were not exactly sure when the parts would come in. The Warn distributor had them for me the day I picked them up at about 830 was in the garage (heated) at nine and out the door at ten and back to plowing the 16 inches of snow we got New Years Day.
Good Luck
