I am building another explorer.Just to prove that you can run 12" wide wheels on a dana 35 with 38 inch tires and not kill the wheel bearings and to prove you can daily drive it without turning it over in a curve at regular speeds. This one will be used for mall crawling only.No offroading just street driving.I am doing to different stages. The first is a 6" skyjacker classII lift with a 4" body lift. For tires I will be running 38.5 17.5 15 monster mudders on 15x12 589's.With 5.13's for gears. The second stage at the end of the summer will front and rear dana 60's.And 44 inch tires. Now to the pictures, here is the explorer with leather enterior.Auto for now but 5 speed swap coming soon.

Then the body lift blocks cut on a lathe there UHMW and the shifter ext.Next to a 3 inch ext.i oreder the bolts 12mm 1.75 at the local fastener supply there grade 8.No pictures of them everyone knows what bolts look like.

I have a spare dana 35 front that I will be taking to the powder coater this coming week.I am going with hammered gray on the beams. And red front and rear sway bars.I am going to have a disk brake 95 model 8.8 done in hammered gray also. The progress will be slow since I am working 6 days a week third shift.I will update as I can. Thanks for looking.

gonna be cool. but people say the dana 35 blows up at anything over 35s because they have done it 4 wheeling not on the street... and are you gearing it low cause u'll break more axles with that too

Lookin good, you don't really see that many plain brown explorers. A few two tones but yours is the only pure brown one i've seen

hard to break a 35 when it never gets locked in

Well things have a way of not working out sometimes.Went to get the 38.5's mounted and pad balanced today and one of them had a broke belt. They were about 8 years old but had never been mounted.Had been setting in a guys garage for all that time.So I traded them in on a set of Irok's 39.5 13.50 15.Put them on the 15x12 wheels. There huge looks like a 8" lift is going to be needed now.Guess I will try to find one and make my own extended radius arms.Check out how huge they are.

Here it is compared to a 38.5 mudder on my two door explorer.

Here is my hand to show how much difference there is.

Going to be one big explorer.

The only thing new is i just bought a rear axle.Dana 60 out of a 93E350 van.It even has rear abs, hoping it will work with the factory abs on the explorer.Looks like i am in the market for some 8 lug wheels.I have a line on a dana 60 front. As soon I get it I will order my 7.17 gears.

100_0747.jpg

So instead of two stages I am going to do dana 60's the first time.No use gearing two sets of axles.I am working 48 hours a week right now.So I am gathering parts till I have time to work on it.

wasnt the point of this thread to show stock axles could handle the tire? either way its bad ass

^^^ x2. so we not doing stock axles now?

My 93 two door explorer is getting the 6" class II lift and the 39.5 Iroks. So I can show the stock axles can handle the tires.I said this would be a two stage build but I ran in to a smoking deal on the rear 60 so I couldn't pass it up.

Just build it, baby. Just build it. I love your style.
