Gentlemen,
I picked up my brand new '10 2.3L, manual trans., bare bones Ranger today. I think the FX4 shifter is "old school"/very cool looking. Can I make a direct swap of the factory shifter for an FX4 shifter? Apologies if this has already been asked. Thanks, Rich Milwaukee, Wisc. |

The FX4 shifter "looks" cool but it's Functionally no different from the stock shifter.
It's a chrome lever with a screw on knob and a different boot. The problem is that that shifter is rediculously expensive and all you get is looks. Now, if you want a "Retro" looking shifter get the Hurst Billet plus, it has a square chrome lever but is functionally FAR superior, and a lot less money than the FX4 shifter. $215-ish from Summit Racing. The FX4 stuff will be far more but the FX4 is just as sloppy as the factory shifter because how it is different is purely cosmetic. AD

Thanks for the information. I looked into that option. I found Hurst Billet/Plus part number: 3915020. It says it will fit a 2.3L up to '03.
I called Hurst and he said it will only fit up to '05. He also said it's rather unlikely they'll create one for the '10's as there is limited demand. Any other ideas? Thanks again for your assistance. Rich |

As far as I know the '10 still uses the M50D trans. So I see no reason why it wont work. I am assuming they just dont have the catalog up to date.

I can buy one locally. I think I will "roll the dice" and give it a shot.
I will let you all know how it shakes out. Happy Easter, Rich |
