Rant...

So I have recently swapped out my 3 73s for 4 56s, and put a locker in the rear as well. I was surprised to find out that when I drained my diff oil, that the cover was made of some sort of composite or fiberglass. I am NOT comfortable covering up hundreds of dollars of investment back with a plastic cover.

Solution...

Well, after a suggestion from a good buddy of mine, I ordered a new diff cover, and figured Id show you guys. It is from GreatLakesOffroad, and is STOUT. The mating surface is 1/2 inch thick, and the rest is 1/4. The strip up the middle you see is an ADDITIONAL 1/2 inch strip of steel added on top of the cover as added protection. It also has drain and fill holes.

Im pretty stoked to get it painted up and installed, give me some ease of mind.

That is one beefy diff cover. At least you don't have to worry about throwing sand bags in the back for snow traction, your cover is heavy enough.

yeah its ridiculous, and SO well made. I think with all teh extras, i ended up paying around 125 or so for it.

looking cool man, and deff your rear end is bullet proof now lol
i assume my 99 has the plastic cover too

DAMN.....that thing probably weighs as much as the axle it's going on. i like where the drain plug is located, recessed and out of the way. it may even be beefier than the ruffstuff cover.....what's it going on? 8.8?

Yeah it's for an 8.8 it is definitely more stout than the ruffstuff cover, and almost the same price. I was going to get the ruff cover until my buddy showed me this one. Just have to get longer bolts now.

They need to start stocking those at x ray centers. I'd feel much safer with one of those over my junk than the blankets they give you now-a-days.

^ lol, gives new meaning to chastity belt.

HAHAHA...but yeah wow man. Thats alot of steel. You should paint it the same red as the explorer leaf springs haha

Just wait until you're under the truck trying to lift the darned thing up to mount it. Don't get yourself a hernia.

haha yea its quite hefty. I guess somewhere on the net there is a video of a truck running one over, and it does nothing to the cover. If there is ANY damage done to it theyll send me a new one.

You never know when the Taliban will infilterate your local offroad vehicle park.

I have one like that--made out of 3/8" everywhere, I think. It was from when TRS was selling them. I was also cursing the plastic cover. I first bought a regular stamped steel cover and learned metal working while trying to hammer that bastard back in shape. Definately, you went the right way.
