I had a bad MAF

I just wanted to share my experiences and add to the massive amount of knowledge already in these forums. :)

I was driving on the freeway at 70mph and my truck was running fine. At one point the engine "returned to idle". It was odd. The engine didn't die, it just wouldn't accelerate and the RPMs wouldn't increase.

I pulled off the side of the road and the engine was idling fine but it wouldn't accelerate. I shut off the engine and restarted it. It was fine until I tried to accelerate hard to get back onto the freeway and up to freeway speeds. It wouldn't go faster than 45 mph. If I pushed the peddle to the floor, the engine would knock and ping really bad.

I tried restarting the engine again and it was a lost cause. It wouldn't respond properly to the throttle.

I had it towed to a shop who did some work on it. The first thing they did was replace the MAF but it was defective from the shop...lol So they were stumped and thought it was an electrical issue. They returned the MAF and got a second one and now everything is fine. They also replaced my fuel filter for good measure. The truck runs fine now.

For the last couple weeks, my truck was having a hard time accelerating when the engine was cold. It would act like it was all loaded up and either running rich or lean. It never threw a code though.

So if you're having any issues like these:
- No power when the engine is cold
- Engine acting like it's rich/lean and won't accelerate when cold
- Not responding to the throttle

It could be the MAF. With all those things going on, it didn't occur to me that the MAF could be the problem. I'd assumed I would have gotten a code if it had gone bad or started to malfunction, but I didn't.

Hope this helps someone at some point. :)

Thanks for the info man.
