Ok, so as my sig indicated, I have a hole in my floor.

This hole is the result of my FM145 to M5OD swap. It needed to be done and it needed to be done in a hurry as the 145 was not long for this world. I was not able to obtain the shifter boots or floor plate from the donor vehicle because the body, and by extension those parts, were gone before I got there.

I got my grubby mits on a pair of boots today from the yard, one from a manual trans with push-button 4x4 and one from a auto trans with manual 4x4. In 50+ acres of cars and probably over 100 RBVs that I searched today I was not able to find one with an M5 and manual 4x4. I'm trying to use the parts that I have now to make something to cover this hole well, and hopefully I can figure it out. :icon_confused: :icon_idea: :icon_welder:

In the event I am unsuccessful, I know some of you guys have done this mod on your 1st gens, how did you deal with the resultant hole in the floor?

Just trim a chunk of sheet metal to fit the hole?

I've thought of that, and it will probably be in some way involved in my final solution. Already have the sheet stock to cut too.

there you go, just drill the holes for the screws and you're good, might have to use some rtv for a seal but that'd be it

Yeah, I just wanted to see if anyone else had already figured something out, save me the trouble of engineering something out in the cold.

yeah the parts are out there. you need the bolt in floor plate out of a 2nd gen truck, the proper boots and everything. then you need to cut out the hole in your floor to match the bolt in plate that comes from your donor. the back half of the hole thats there will match up with the floor plate. the front half will have to be cut out. i have pics on my phone but it will have to wait till tomorrow at least before i can post them. i did my trans swap probably a year ago and just finally got around to getting my shifters and boots finished up. the carpet still doesnt match because of how it was cut from the factory, but its better than nothing.

I know that the second gen plate fits, I just can't find one. I spent literally 3 hours hiking around the junk yard yesterday, must have looked at 25 vehicles from that era with all the wrong options. I haven't exhausted all my options for factory parts just yet, but I need to get something done with it because it is loud, smelly, and cold driving it right now with the hole in the floor and a small leak somewhere is the exhaust. I grabbed a set of boots, one from a manual trans/push button 4x4 and one from one that was the other way around hoping I could make something. Probably still my best bet ATM.

Pics of your set up would still be great Kunar.

yeah ill do my best to get you some pics but im probably gonna be pretty busy tomorrow. hopefully ill have some free time on thrusday. what i did before i got the proper boot and floor plate... i just used a piece of mud flap (big heavy one from a semi) to cover the hole in the floor. i cut a hole in it that the shifter would fit through and a slot that the transfer case shifter would go through. then i used an old rag to kinda seal up the holes. i know, thats redneck, but it worked fine for a long time.

I'm not gonna get around to working on this until probably friday night, but my real concern is getting it through inspection. I normally do my own and would let a little thing like this go because if it gets to the point where I feel its genuinely unsafe, I'm gonna fix whatever is making it that way, but I am not working in a shop right now and might not be by the time my stickers are up.

Well I got to do some work on it today and got a pretty good setup set up. I should be able to post some picture and the procedure I used to make it in a few days once I get it fully put together.
