Well, I drove my truck to classes today, so while my build isnt 100 percent complete, its time for a writeup.

First off, special thanks to:
Rwenzing for answering many questions for me.
MudSlanger for an awesome swap thread.
and TheRangerStation tech library swap article.

I started off with a 98 ranger 4.0 OHV with a broken flexplate. Managed to acquire a wrecked but running 97 explorer with the GT-40P 5.0 for 500 dollars.
Still left to do - replace inner fenders. Finish exhaust system, dumping out primary cats now. Replace awd t-case with bw1356 from a bronco, if it clears the frame. Local salvage yard gave me a 1345 case to test fit, haven't tried it yet.

PICS:
A 4.0?!? What the hell's that doin in there? GET IT OUT!!!!!!!!1

Gettin there:

Going

Going

GONE!!! My roommate stands with his kill. (he was driving when the 'plate let go)

My roommate got in an argument with the trans lines. USE BIGGER TOOL!

Hmm... Something isn't right here... O yah, only 6 cylinders, thats whats wrong :D

Poor unsuspecting little 'sploader.

Holy UV dye Batman!

Correct throttle cable removal method: Use skinny roommate.

Ready for removal

No way in hell is this engine and trans coming out as one piece.

You're free 5.0! Fly! FLY!!!

At least I didn't spill any :icon_twisted:

Driveway, or salvage yard?

Bling Bling :headbang:

The correct way to get it up (motor mount removal)

Ahh, now that looks better. 5.0 where it belongs.

As she sits now:

Happy to answer any questions about the swap.

Looking good! My first V8 Ranger that I put together was a 5.0 H.O., and it was a fun truck to drive! Although very fast, it was not as quick as my 351 Cleveland Ranger is, but it was a great experience to drive! :icon_hornsup:

Only electric mods were:
Switching the tach wire in the instrument cluster.
Grounding one wire, and running both alternator signal wires to the chassis-engine plug.
Combining and deleting unnecessary parts of the battery harnesses from both vehicles.
