Yep - two of them. I read some sort of warning once about cleaning a block during rebuild and that the two steel balls in the upper valley area - under the intake - need to be driven out through the main bearing oil holes.

Here is the question - will they drive back in and stay there or do I need to drill and tap the holes and keep the steel balls for paperweights? Maybe a screw in brass plug?

I'm only posting because you asked me to...

I have no idea.

This should come as no suprise, but I don't rebuild engines anymore.
I consider engines to be "disposable"

So if one needs to come apart it is only to verify my diagnosis
or to "harvest" some interestingly distorted part.

Disposable

More and more I'm coming around to your way of thinking.

First is was Dixie Cups . . and it continued till I traded my stainless steel guns for Glocks.
