i just broke a motor mount and i need a picture of it. its the one under the exhaust (right side)

i need a picture of the mount that is on the frame. i think i snapped the stud off. or is it a bolt that i can replace?

if its a stud can i knock it out and replace with a bolt?

you're going to have to replace the motor mount. the stud is actually part of the mount. and i really doubt you could get a bolt to work. good news is its on the passenger side so the drivers side mount should keep the motor from twisting too much if you choose to drive it like that.

no i cant drive it. when i accelerate it knocks and vibrates.

is that mount riveted to the frame? im so pissed this happened. i need to get this fixed as soon as possible and without removing the engine

get the solid rubber mount from Napa, it's like $35ish

you can replace the passenger side without removing the engine, but it's not easy. you will need a way to jack the engine up like a jack on the oil pan or an engine hoist on the exhaust manifold or something, first thing get an 18mm socket or wrench and get the top nut loose then jack the engine as high as it will go, then get under the truck and remove the lower bracket, there's 3 or 4 bolts that you only need to get on the nut for, on my 4x4 it was a pain as I had to take a suspension mount off to get to things but after that it went pretty smooth

THis is a pain in the ass to replace, you will need to lift the engine up enough to get the weight of the mount. should be 3 bolts holding a bracket to the cross member:annoyed:. i had to replace both my mounts 2 times in a week! i ended up make'n my own out of steal:icon_welder:. i dont know about geting new replacment ones thay lasted 2 days for me.but my 2.3 ant stock:icon_cheers:

were you using the hydraulic replacements or solid rubber?

I opted for solid on both sides with the turbo, these mounts are used on F250's too, don't know how they die with these small engines... yes, I've blown out both of my stock ones too

im getting hydraulic ones because i don't want it to be as smooth as possible, its a daily driver.

they are only $40 versus $30 solid rubber

in personal experience, I din't notice a vibration difference between hydraulic mounts and solid...

just did motor mounts today on a 94' with the 2.3.. i used a engine hoist to lift up the motor enough to get the mounts out. passanger side one ripped in half at the rubber and drivers side stud ripped clean off the mount. i replaced them with the napa one also. i do believe they were $35ish if im not mistaken

just pulled the drivers side mount, the passenger still has the stud ripped off.

drivers side was much much worse though lol

wow i got more familiar with ranger motor mounts than i ever wanted to do, F that

so now i changed both of them, the truck really drives differently especially in reverse, feels very solid

How hard is it gonna be to replace the driver side mount? I broke mine the other day and plan on replacing it Sunday.

the driver side is the easy side, i undid the nuts on both mounts, removed the driver side coil, unbolted the fan shround and then jacked up the engine as high as possible then removed the bracket from the frame, and reinstalled the bracket with new mount.

So I should remove the tire and coil and replace the mount from that area? I was thinking I would have to do it from under the truck.

he's talking about the ignition coil that's mounted about 2" from the engine mount stud on the '89 and '90 engines

yes, under the truck, look at the rubber engine mount, the bracket that is attached to the bottom of it needs to come off, it's been 4 years since I had a 4x2 to look at so I don't know how many bolts hold it on, but I do know they are inside the engine crossmember sharing the space with the I beams, it gets trickier with traction beams instead of I beams as they are larger... somehow lift just that side of the engine (chain or strap around the intake manifold or something) and just take it apart.

as said, the passenger side LOOKS easier, but is harder, there's physically not enough room to get the new mount and bracket in place without swearing a lot. when I put the turbo engine in I ended up chopping off about 1/2" of the stud which would have made things easier... it made sliding the engine in easier dealing with the blower housing and turbo interfering
