Did ford ever make an Edge model Ranger, with the 4.0 available in it, and 4X4 STANDARD CAB?

I'm looking to buy a newer truck and can't find one anywhere. All I ever find in the standard cab 4x4 is the 3.0, which I really don't want. I also don't want an extended cab. Ideally, I'd like to find an Edge, standard cab, 4.0L, 4x4, manual trans.

What do you guys think? Any info for me?

GB :)

I like standard cabs. That's all I've ever owned. My mother had an extended cab and I never really cared for it. I like the short wheelbase.

I guess I may have to just buy one with the 3.0

Unless someone here thinks that Ford did build some in my desired configuration..?

No - The Edge only came with the 3.0.

Why do you want an Edge?

that is incorrect , you could get an Edge with a 4.0 - I almost bought one - but it was only available in the Super Cab and 4x4. 95% of all Edge's though are 3.0's

Thanks for the replies everyone! Looks like I'm screwed though. I don't think Ford offered an Edge model with standard cab, 4x4, 4.0. Unless it's possible that someone ordered one that way directly from Ford.

I've been shopping online all day long and all I can find is the 3.0 in that config.

Anyone got any opinions on the difference in power between the 3.0 and 4.0 with 4x4?? Someone that's owned both. Might as well ask while I'm in this thread...

I wouldn't say you're "screwed", when you could have both the 4.0 and the much needed extra room of the extended cab. I can't imagine having the regular cab model of the tiniest pickup on the market. I must say I like the look of regular cab trucks much better though....

As far as the 3.0 vs. 4.0, I have the 4 and I've never driven one with the 3. Keep in mind that the 3 liter is referred to as the "3.slow" a lot. "Dog" is another word often used to describe it. That's really the extent of what I know about it, but I've never heard anyone say it's a bad engine.

Look above my avatar. Then look what engine I have. In all seriousness, it's a good engine. I don't know about the previous ownerships or what's been done but I did head gaskets at 174,000 and i'm at 184,000 now. It's a torquey little engine but it doesn't have much balls.

I, like you, much prefer the look of the standard cab model. I don't like the length of the X-cab models, plus I'd just fill it with junk that I didn't need in there anyway.

Mainly, I like a small little truck, with the biggest available engine and 4x4. Standard shift would be even sweeter.

My 2.9 was a dog... but a reliable b!tch of one, my 2.3 is more like a pup, the 4.0 is a nice change of pace........ but compared to my last diesel, or even my modded 355 1 ton chevy........ she just aint a rock-n-rolla.

Even if you don't like the rear doors, what about the non-opening extended cab? I'll never own another single, after the 200k mile rowdy-ford goes down.

Thanks again guys! It look like I'm gonna have to go with the 3.0 to get my standard cab with 4x4. Now if I can find a manual trans and rubber floor covering, then I'm set.

That said, is there much out there in the world of performance mods that can be done to the 3.0? Headers, intake stuff, any other bolt on mods? Anything to create a hair more horsepower.. I don't have any problems buying the truck for say $9000 and then sinking another $2000 in her..

I know all about that dreaded 2.9. I've been working on mine for years. More than I've driven it probably.. Although I bought it with a chip already installed so I don't know what a stock 2.9 feels like.

It was hard enough to find one in 2wd. I would think it'd be a little easier to find one in 4x4. I'm sure there's one out there....at least one. Whoever has it probably wants to hold on to it too...

I'm almost positive i've seen a 4.0 reg cab 4x4 before.

I looked all day online, with zero results. The thing that fools people sometimes (even got me) is that some of the Edge models with the 4.0 look like they're 4x4 with the stance that they have.

If someone finds one then let me know! I'm ready to do a fly-n-drive.

I have a 99 4x4 supercab with rubber floors...manual everything. I'll sell it to you for $9,000!:yahoo::icon_rofl:Just kidding, it's not worth much at all. Where are you located?

I'm in Toledo Illinois, but I'll fly anywhere needed (cash in hand) for a nice low mileage truck and drive it back.

Standard cab only though....

I just tried to build one on Fords website and it's not possible.
