Nerf bars

I just got a set of westin nerf bars for my truck. The instructions werent that great but I did get them installed the way I think there supposed to be. I looked at em over and it doesnt seem right to me. I can barely squeez my hand between the steps and the body and they seem to be really tucked under the body more then I thought they would be. Does that all look like I did them right?

Those look just like the ones I had on my truck before I took them off.
