I looked around and haven't seen a post on start to finish on setting the valve lash on the 2.8.
Does anyone have a how to?

On finding TDC to remove the distributor bring #1 up and feel for #5 intake valve to start to just move and that TDC #1 ??

Tell me if I'm wrong, follow the firing order and bring each cylinder to TDC and feel for both of the push rods to spin freely and set the valve lash??

Thanks in advance

I'd tell you exactly how to do it but cant find my manual to quote it but from what it said but I do remember what it said to adjust to. It says to adjust to .0025 inches but other guys say they set theres to .014 to .016 inches. My dads are at .0025 in. Just take your time doing it. And I agree that the tech. library needs a right up on how to set the valves in the 2.8 liters.

according to the ford manual

when intake on 5 is just opening adjust valves on cyl 1. when intake on 3 is just opening adjust cyl 4. when intake on 6 is opening adjust cyl 2. when intake on 1 is opening adjust cyl 5. when intake on 4 is opening adjust cyl 3. when intake on 2 is opening adjust cyl 6. 14 thou intake 16 exhaust.

Thank you so much, that will help a bunch.:icon_thumby:

yes- two and a half thousanths is waaay too tight.
don't turn the screws any more than you have to,
they are a friction fit and they will wear out.
i usually go .001 tighter than spec because it doesn't
get hot here. .002 is too much. on rockers with a
lock nut, you can use the screw as a micrometer-
turn the screw til it stops then back so many degrees
and lock it down, then check it. but that doesn't
work with these rockers.

im new to the ranger world but i have a 83 with the 2.8 v6 im replacing the valve cover gaskets and have a bad valve tick and was wonting the tick to quiet down just a tad it is just getting a little too loud for me thanks

Get the rubber valve cover gaskets.

They service manual makes it quite clear. Where are you located. I replaced my 2.8 with a v-8 and don't need the manual any more. You can have it if your close.
