open diff to L/S

I have a 94 Ranger with a open 8.8 Diff with 3.27 gears and I want to throw in L/S 3.73 gears. I was wondering if I could just swap out the guts or will I have to swap the whole diff.

your best bet would be to find another 8.8 with 3.73s ls.. thats what i did.. i went from open 3.27s to 3.73ls an just swaped in axles.. much easier then trying to pay some one to set up the new gears..
 
What vechile/year did you get those axles off of? And you just found them in a auto rec?

anything 93+ will fit into your truck. just go down to the local bone yard and look at axle tags. you want one that reads "8.8 3L73".
 
Also if you are planning on getting a whole 8.8 with a L/S or swapping one in get a rebuild kit and rebuild it as depending on miles on the units it will most likely be shot. And its the best time to do it.
 
i actually pulled mine out of a 92 stx.. was an 8.8 with 3.73ls.. got it for a good price an did a complete rebuild.. rebuilt the ls new brakes guts cylinders every thing..
